Because a good horror franchise can't stay dead. I've enjoyed the Saw franchise overall and after six years (I can't believe its been that long since the last installment) I'm ready for at least one more go around. Anyboyd else game for Saw 8?
I gave up on these flicks years ago. The only ones I liked were the first two. I remember seeing the 3rd one in the theaters and being miserable how shitty it was. I honestly cannot recall if I've seen 4-5-6-or 7. I guess I'll give this one a shot next year if the trailer looks decent. Nothing to look forward to though, in my opinion.
I haven't watched any of these theatrically outside of the first one. I always just wait for the inevitable "unrated" version to hit. seeing any of these in their neutered, R-rated form, seems to defeat the whole purpose. that will probably be the route I take with this one as well.
Now that I think of it, I might revisit part 2 this month. It's been a while. The first two had a lot going for it. (aside from really REALLY awful acting in the first one). The second was simple enough. The entire duration takes place in one house. After the sequel, I think the story got way too complicated for it's own good. I enjoy a movie that makes you think as much as the next guy, but you lose your audience if it gets too complex. If you're going to make a franchise that's all about the kills, then stick to that formula (see Final Destination). I believe they couldn't decide whether to make splatter films or a serial killer mystery with 837 different twists.
LOL, yeah I forget where in the series I left off. I think I actually made it through part 5 but I couldn't tell you anything that happened after part 3 (maybe!) Wait, I remember Betsy Russell had a bigger role in part 4. And part 5 started with the guy getting cut in half by the pendulum. Lions Gate should just release a compilation of all the death scenes since no one really cares about the convoluted plot at this point.
That would make a pretty cool compilation. I do admit one does rather run into another and they are a bit convoluted, but I always enjoyed the strange and creative ways they could devise for the next death.
100% agreed. Watching it all together it works real well. Looks like Legacy is moving on from the end of VII since Mandylor and Elwes aren't in the cast list (but that could all be a ruse to trick us) Either way I'm willing to play this game once again.
Betsy Russell has one of the best racks of all time... ...but honestly I felt her story was finished in VII.
Now that Siskel and Ebert have passed on, I can't name one critic. A culmulative number based of the existing critics is meaningless to me. One film I love is The Red Violin. If I paid attention to Rotten Tomatoes, I may have passed on it since it's rated 74%. I'm sure if you were to tally the scores of all of the films you own, the overall average of your collection would be no higher than 70%.
