The Greatest Werewolf Movie of All Time goes hi-def when Scream Factory bring Joe Dante's THE HOWLING (1981) to blu ray! After a traumatic assault from serial killer Eddie Quist, L.A. news reporter Karen White is sent to The Colony, a relaxation retreat designed to aid her recovery. However, there's more than meets the eye at this peaceful getaway, and her husband being seduced by a lusty lycanthrope is only the beginning of her problems. Fur flies, limbs are chopped, and Eddie may not be dead after all... In parts darkly comedic then intensely frightening, with imposing creature design from FX legend Rob Bottin, THE HOWLING remains a supremely effective horror romp thanks to Dante's spot-on direction of John Sayles' intelligent script. Seriously one of the best. Plus, it's got Atkins.

Designated a "Collector's Edition" by Shout Factory, I imagine this will port over all the extras from the prior MGM disc along with some new goodies -- let's hope they finally give us the supplements from the Image Laserdisc that didn't make the cut on the last DVD!

This is a must. I had to sneak into the theater to see this when it played because I was only 14 at the time.

Could this not be posted in the Shout! Factory thread? There's no need to keep creating new threads about releases we already know about.

I don't want to be antagonistic or contradict Matt, but I sort of enjoy opening horrordvds.com and seeing the new threads with the release dates.
I think most of them are worthy of individual discussion.

OK. I take back what I wrote in the Scream Factory thread. Keep that one for the kiddies and specific announcements for the rest of us.

Not that I really care about this title. Saw it once ages ago, nothing special. Was I right or does it deserve a second look? (A Howling half sheet is on my most wanted list, BTW.)

Will be purchasing the Blu-Ray June 18th. I already own a few of the recent Scream Factory Blu-Rays, and I very impressed with them, and I will continue to purchase from them.

I have to agree with you there for sure.
However, The Howling grows on me with every watch.
I also love Rob Bottin's bi-pedal lycanthropes over Baker's super wolf, but that's a matter of opinion.

Well, I would discourage that sort of thing. I don't always keep up with the Shout/MondoMacabre/Olive/etc. threads. But, this is something that I would be interested in and if it was buried in a 135 page thread I would probably miss it. So, I'm all for having release threads started up by film title rather than distribution company.

I completely agree with Anaestheus. I generally don't look at the threads with that many posts because they tend to be off topic or have people just bashing each other's opinions.

Old news, but here's the cover. I imagine the flipside will have the traditional art.

Very excited by that list of supplements. Every DVD extra carried over, old laserdisc features that haven't been included on releases for over a decade, and interesting sounding new features. Movie wise, this was one of my most anticipated Scream Factory titles, but now the features are supporting the fact that this could be their best release to date.

All that´s left is the great "Welcome To Werewolfland" documentary from the R2 DVD.

I was not planning to upgrade this, but based on those new extras it's a possibility now.

Posted in the Shout thread, but I thought I'd post here too. I got screeners of Howling, Ninja III and Lifeforce in already. I've gotten some Howling and Ninja III shots posted on my Flickr account. I'm not sure if they compress them or anything on Flickr, but they were all a full 1-1.5 MB when I snapped the shots.

Here's the link, mostly Ninja III on page 1, Howling on 2:
