And I was probably the biggest anti-slipcover person in that conversation.

That's because cult film fans are a bunch of whiny bitches would rather cut off their nose to spite their face than shut up a be grateful for the gifts they've received. I am occasionally guilty myself. :D

95 posts from JimSmith and you'd think the guy owns this place. Does anyone else get the sense he's regular using a second account to troll?

You know what? After all it is only a blu-ray release of The Howling and NOT the end of the fucking world. If you have a problem with an otherwise awesome blu-ray release, don't fucking buy it. This is clearly the best The Howling has ever looked, regardless of the fact that Shout Factory used the same master as the StudioCanal release. They have to work with what they're given. After all, they don't OWN these movies. They're a distribution company, not a major studio.

I thought the Blu-ray looked pretty damned good. The questionable color timing is a minor issue, but this is definitely the best it's looked off screen and in the home.

It's not the first movie to have color timing issues, just look at Halloween, Road Warrior, etc.. and there is no guarantee that even a later re-release (i.e. Road Warrior) will correct these concerns. Either accept the faults, or don't buy it and remain happy waiting.

Were people this upset over the StudioCanal blu-ray?

Do you guys honestly think any other company would have created a brand new transfer? [IMG]

I never understood why people point the pros and cons of a conversion comparing them to an unrelated movie conversion.

    - Different movie
    - Different original stock
    - Different everything

The correct thing is to compare a conversion with another edition of the same movie.

In this case, picture wise, the only two editions that exist at the moment share the same print, going so far to say the same conversion.

I don´t intend to point the finger at anyone by saying this but... Overall, first we bitch that said movie in not on DVD, then if it is on DVD we bitch it is not on Blu, then if it in on Blu we bitch that it isn´t perfect... Humans are so hard to please.

This. One thing though, it is missing one extra from the DVD, although minor it is missing the teaser trailer. Sucks as I'm a bit of a completist and found this out after selling off my DVD. Strange that it's missing, but again, not the end of the world.

Agreed, this just seems to be something that comes with Blu-ray. There are plenty of transfers that now have a green tinge to them. Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Terminator coem to mind, but there are LOTS more. I having watched my copy yet, but going off the stills (Not always the best thing to do), I think it looks great, and miles better than the old DVDs.

As for Road Warrior, the new release still includes the same colour changes. Halloween on the other hand sounds like it was a bit of a mess up and will be fixed with the new 35th Anniversary edition due by years end.

Unlike Scream Factory's edition of The Fog, which I received today along with this one, The Howling transfer DOES have a problem, albeit one that is easily rectified (at least on my Panasonic Plasma): the transfer is far too light. As much as I love rich and deep blacks, I generally set my black level in my plasma panel to "light" because in 99.9% of films setting it to "dark" will cause a major loss in detail. However, to get this edition of The Howling to look the way it is supposed to, I had to change the setting to "dark". Once I did that, the film looked absolutely perfect.

I watched my blu of the Howling and was very impressed with the quality of the transfer. Some of the scenes were incredibly clear. This brought back some great memories of having to sneak into the theater when I was 14 to see this film. This is truly a must own version for any fans of this film. The werewolf scenes for the most part still look fabulous after 30 plus years.

Looks like The Howling is getting a new release from Studiocanal in the UK. Love the artwork.

I think it looks like shit. Typical floating head cover. Very generic.

I don't mind the artwork. Bizarre that our two listed leads don't feature on the cover though haha.

Lol yeah that art is fucking terrible.

Probably the same transfer as Shout's too. I'll stick with mine.
