Sad news, Spanish horror director Juan Piquer Simón passed away last night from lung cancer. I was informed from a friend through Facebook who heard from close sources to the director, and it has been confirmed on a few other forums. J.P. gave us some great grindhouse classics such as the infamous Pieces and the underrated and campy Slugs. I don't think he ever got the respect he deserved as a director, but he will be remembered greatly in the horror communities. RIP Juan.
Damn, that sucks if it's true. I love Pieces, he seemed like a very nice, down to earth man in his interviews and really fond of his movies. RIP JP.
In remembrance of the man that is oft overlooked for making the TRUE "best worst movie": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5em-gCbqSY
R.I.P. See, the thing about Pieces is that although it has so many classic bad movie moments, overall, it's a pretty damn great slasher movie. One of the rarest cases where a cheesy bad movie, is actually a fantastic film as well.
RIP, love Pieces but Slugs is my favorite, I remember watching it when I was like 6 and loving the fuck out of it, still do to this day. His Mystery on Monster Island is also really fucking entertaining as well.
damn, just watched Pieces three days ago for the first time in about 10 years and forgot how entertaining it was. Sure, there were some pretty laughable moments, but overall it's very good. RIP
Love the man, shame cancer got him, but he was getting up there... Yet this be a lesson to anyone who eats bad sushi! RIP
