Thanks guys. I hope you'll enjoy it! ... In the meantime, I'm working on a mega tribute to HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. I have interviews with Jack Blum and Tracey E Bregman, and I'm on a promise from two other cast members. Keep 'em peeled over at www.hysteria-lives.co.uk. :)

I just looked through the preview pages on amazon.co.uk. It looks great, I will be ordering a copy the second it is available on amazon.com. I found the listing for it on there, it says it will be available October 2010. Keep us updated!

I love the Hysteria Lives site. In fact there are many forgotten slashers that I would have probably never heard of if it wasn't for that site. Many of them even became instant favorites (such as House Of Death, Shallow Grave, Bloody Movie, or the recent Murder Loves Killers Too). I'm still trying to track down Edge Of The Axe and Mirage.

Hey Justin, the layout looks really nice, but I'm wondering - how much page space to the films that aren't the 10 top films of the year/era get? I'm less interested in reading about the slashers we all know about (Halloween, The Burning, Friday the 13th, etc.) and more interested in the odd stuff like Honeymoon Horror, House of Death, Sledgehammer, etc. The preview pages only really had the big stuff.

... Thanks, Rhett. Basically, it's a trade-off. I would have preferred to have written a book gives an equal amount of time to the more obscure slashers as it does to the more well known ones (which is what my website does). However, commercially that would have had a limited appeal - and hence I wouldn't have been able to get it published (and believe me, I did have some strong discussions over this).

As it is, I have covered as many of the less well known ones as I could. I really didn't want to regurgitate information about FRIDAY THE 13TH yet again, as there is a wealth of published work already on that - and there are so many more interesting stories out there about films that rarely get talked about. But, again, it had to be a balance - and let's face it, PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN etc had a greater impact on the slasher than, say, DEATH VALLEY or GIRLS NITE OUT. However, the Golden Age ('78-'84) section of the book (which is not in the preview) takes up about half of the book.

It is also in the context of covering the whole history of the slasher in just 40,000 words. Not an easy task. However, for instance, HONEYMOON HORROR is covered, with poster art and a photo of the killer. There is also a huge amount of gorgeous slasher artwork from that period (and accompanying text), including SATAN'S BLADE, FATAL GAMES, PRANKS, INCUBUS, SUPERSTITION, DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, EYES OF A STRANGER, MANIAC, FUNERAL HOME, NEW YEAR'S EVIL, DEADLY GAMES, SAVAGE WATER, SCHIZOID, HOME SWEET HOME, HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER and many, many more! I have also covered foreign slashers, slasher spoofs etc.

If the book is successful, perhaps I can get one published that concentrates solely on the more obscure slashers, in the same way that, say, Nightmare USA does.

And you've just sold one more copy with that piece of information! ;)

Seriously, I've been a fan of Hysteria Lives! for years, owing to its pointing me in the direction of obscurities such as Honeymoon Horror. Looks cool with all the artwork too. :)

While you're waiting, here's a link to my HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME retrospective. A new review, details on the pre-production and production of the film. Rare promotional artwork and trailers. Plus, censorship and reception - as well its legacy and a 'What became of the Crawford Top Ten' feature. Topped off with two interviews with cast members Tracey E. Bregman and Jack Blum (with more hopefully to come!). Hope you enjoy it! :)

Wow, awesome retrospective. It rivals the ones you see in magazines like HorrorHound. (As a matter of fact, this would make an amazing retrospective for the magazine. You should submit it to them).
