^^^ I'm passing on this particular sale. I bought several "newer" titles on their sale last month that were actually cheaper then, and I just don't really see anything here that I particularly need or don't already own. There are a lot of older titles in this sale that have never previously been offered on sale by Kino though, so if you don't already own some of those it is a solid sale.
Great Disney news today; Cabin Boy Special Edition announced (and check out the new commissioned artwork!): http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15201486&postcount=21611 And a list of the remaining titles in the first Disney/Kino deal: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15202738&postcount=21653 In other news, we have a slightly updated list for September: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15201945&postcount=21621

1932 to 2009 is a pretty wide berth. Seems to me Universal would hang on to their classic horrors very closely, but these days who knows. Turning down an offer for The Man Who Laughs is interesting as there's not much reason for Universal to say "No," besides having nothing worth scanning for HD (a very real possibility). However Universal recently double downed publicly on doing more restorations of silents, so they could very well have their own designs for it.
This is so amazing! The possibilities; Woody Woodpecker, Journey to The Far Side of The Sun, hopefully the DreamWorks Classics library (a LOT of the classic Paramount Harveytoons are in DIRE need of restoration).
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun is already out on Blu-ray, I've got it. Universal released it in 2015. https://www.amazon.com/Journey-Far-Side-Sun-Blu-ray/dp/B00ST5TC4S
It's also out in a far better restored Australian Blu-ray, which includes a Gerry Anderson commentary and the alternate "Doppelganger" cut of the film. That HD restoration corrected several things wrong on the Universal Blu-ray release.
But not in the US, we got a barebones release. And yes, I have a region free player and I know I can import it, but I would also very much like to have a proper SE release in the States.
First in the Universal deal; The Black Windmill!: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15296155&postcount=22387
A 4k restoration of "The Man Who Laughs" was recently screened at some Silent Film fests. Universal is doing at least 10 restorations of silent films and Phantom of the Opera is also one among them that will interest horror fans.
Well there you have it. Interesting about PotO, as I've heard there's little movement with that. But then I didn't even hear about Man Who Laughs screenings. Has more come out about that? For the 100th anniversary there was taking of restoring Phantom and The Hunchback with no tangible results.
I haven't heard much about Phantom lately. Last I heard, they were pulling in all the sources of material they could find. That film is so fucked up in regards to it's versions, it'll be interesting to see what Universal put outs. I haven't heard anything about Hunchback, but if there was a film that needed a proper restoration, it's that! Too bad only 16mm prints seem to exist (unless Universal has better materials).

Hoping This House Possessed is the TV movie. I believe Midnight Offerings and Deadly Lessons are also MGM.
