Did anyone here pick up the blu-ray of Knife + Heart this week? It was released on Tuesday. I'm curious if it is a BD-R or a pressed disc. The company who released it does BD-Rs, but I'm hoping this will be pressed because it is a bit more high profile than what they typically release. I've been dying to see it! Just want to know what I'm ordering first. For those unfamiliar with the film, this is a '70s set slasher / giallo set in the world of gay porn. It looks amazing, and the soundtrack was done by m83 (who the frontman is apparently the director's brother?) and I love their song "Midnight City".
Can't comment on the facts on the disc, but saw it at a film fest screening and loved the movie. It made my Top 10 list last year!
This is listed as an upcoming title in an email I got from Shudder. No idea when it will be on there though, but probably soon. Edited to add that I'm an idiot, it says June 20th in the email.
Yeah, planning on watching this on Shudder. Gotta justify the $48 I just gave them by doing more than waiting for Joe Bob Briggs to return...
I went ahead and picked up a copy of the blu based on this feedback. The price wasn't very nice but I like to support the independents.
I finally got around to watching Knife + Heart and didn't love it like I was hoping. Definitely a case of style over substance. I also didn't find it as graphic or subversive as it wants you to think it is. The kills are sparse, the mystery isn't engaging, and the reveal is a bit of a cheat without clues or build-up. It's possible I'd like the movie more on a second viewing with my expectations adjusted accordingly. There were sequences I liked, but as a whole I found it pretty clunky and not very engaging. I imagine giallo fans will love it, as it's structured and paced similarly.
