I agree about growth and expansion, however with the Black Album I believe they regressed from what once was a pioneering progressive and groundbreaking metal band into an extension of what Black Sabbath could've become.
Shit ton of money does not mean anything artistically, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack sold more than most Dylan and Led Zeppelin albums, does not make it better by any means.

You posted with responses to some of my statements but not to the one question I had.

What are some of these interesting untapped sites you go to? Please share your finds.

    and
    you did say:

Most of the rest is just repetitive crap. talking about Alice in Chains. THEY are part of the repetitive crap you are talking about. They copied what came before them. They invented zero. They where just a band they followed the trend because of what was popular at that time. They were not trying to be different. If those guys started in the early eighties they would have been a hair band just like the rest.

It happens with all types of music in all era's.

Oh I wasn't saying it was, my point was that many fans seemed to have been peeved at the fact that they had become extremely successful with listeners outside of their normal target demographic.

I've already said several times - she's just a pop performer. I never pretended she was a serious artist. Don't try to twist my words. I said people should judge her based on her talent, not her looks.

No it wasn't. There have been several sexist remarks made right here in this thread by several different members. You were one of them.

And if you're going to lecture me on the different ways people express their sexuality, than you should be more open-minded about the way she does it. And if your beef is with her being a bad role model to her target audience (a point I'd have to have agreed with), you would have said that in the first place. Not said she should be doing porn. So don't pretend like you give a damn what she does on TV in front of people. You obviously don't.

  5. I didn't wanna get involved with no discussion here, to tell ya the complete truth, but I do agree with everything you stated, pretty much. Hell, like I said before, I'm not even all that into music, and some of the classic one-hit-wonders and classic novelty songs of past decades, from the '60s onward, were often just pop-rock artists, who's best tunes never really had that deep of a social message, to be quite honest, however, they often wrote & performed damn good music and concerts and had some memorial/catchy tunes. :) And that's what should count.

Also, people can count me into the open-minded club that doesn't see anything at all that wrong with the adult film industry, in the first place. I've met some adult film starlets out in the greater Los Angeles area, as well as in Vegas on a family vacation twice (!), and hey, most were intelligent and are business-minded and sweet enough. The industry is a billions of dollars a year one for the U.S. and so many are watching it, and hey, I'm all for it if it's conscenting adults.

Sorry but that's an awful analogy imo. Those 4 women don't sing Lady Gaga type music. (maybe Nelly Furtado on one album) Give other examples of dance/pop females that have talent that sing, write, compose their own music. Play instruments and also write songs for other artists in their respected genre just like Lady Gaga. This way we can have a better comparison.

I think thats the point - this is what the performers in the dance/pop genre are like. they all trade on their looks, its a given. it is what it is: shallow entertainment that appeals to the lowest common denominator. both in terms of sound (simple, repetitive, easily appreciated rhythms) and visuals (sex! sex! sex! - there's nothing more primal than that). there's nothing wrong with it. thats the thing about the lowest common denominator: its common. everybody likes it in some form or another, although many like other things better. but by its very nature, pop music is lacking (not devoid of, but definitely lacking) in substance. its popular because its shallow. and its shallow because its popular. it has to be. if it made important statements or had complex meanings, it would exclude those who don't agree with them. and then it wouldn't be "pop" anymore.

with respect to lady gaga, I had honestly never heard her name until a month ago. my wife bought a new phone, and downloaded some ringtones. i heard one and recognized it. then i overheard her and her sister mention the name Lady Gaga, which i didn't recognize. turned out the song was poker face, and of course id heard it before while at the mall or whatever, but never actually heard the artist referred to by name. from these boards i've learned that that increadibly annoying paparazzi song (or Papa Ratsi, as its sung - sounds like a pizza parlour) is hers as well. so i know who she is now. and ive watched her video for poker face, and yeah, while not having a particularly beautiful face, she certainly has a great body, and isnt afraid to show it off, which i appreciate.

Was'nt supposed to be an analogy smart guy, I was stating that this genre is defined by trashy looking females who use T&A to advance their careers rather than talent. Pink is pop and is totally against this ideal.

Valid point-when Motley Crue did Dr.Feelgood with Bob Rock lots of the rebellious metal types at my high school distanced themselves because people in the chess clubs and dungeons and dragons clubs latched onto the pop sensibility and became fans. It was accepted by the masses and that's not cool to a demographic that pride themselves on being marginalized.

Sorry you're a hypocrite and a damn liar, you mention sexist remarks how about when you accused me of calling her a slut? An out and out lie to further your little tirade. Slut is pretty much the pinnacle of sexism and stereotyping and that word was used by you(not me) and negates any argument that may have had a semblance of validity. Using that word and accusing others of being sexist makes about as much sense as saying 'N*gger' and claiming not to be racist. You shot yourself in the foot, sorry pal, you lose. You need to get a brain genius, as well as a sense of humor.

For me it's a double-edged sword. For example, I'm kind of annoyed now that Muse is incredibly popular with the Twilight crowd and they're just now finally getting big time exposure in the states because the writer of the books wants one of their songs in all the movies. Yet at the same time, the bigger crowd they've drawn in means more record sales, which in turn will give them more pull with record companies as their seen as a hot commodity now and they'll have more freedom to make the music they want, with much better recording equipment and studio space. I'll take the good with the bad.

She is seriously hot. Ultra-mainstream pop stuff are judged by the image as well - you don't seriously look for... music and lyrics, but for the whole package. And she is quite a package...

    Love that nose too.

I dunno if anyone can take her too seriously lol when most of her songs are about fucking ("take a ride on your disco stick"?) and getting some juicy cock in her mouth ("Poke Her Face"?). However, she did an acoustic version of Poker Face on piano and honestly...seeing that, she has my respect as a musician. She's a talented woman, there's no doubt about that. She chose to go the pop route (she definitely has the looks for it), and that's her decision. Just because it's pop doesn't necessarily mean it's crap. I mean her music isn't genius or anything, but I certainly wouldn't call it shit. I'd still say it's a step higher than the "pop" music that comes out these days.

Honestly, a lot of music from ALL genres is about fucking and drinking. I don't mind when AC/DC sings about it, so I guess its ok for Lady Gaga to sing about it. Besides, I happen to LIKE slutty women, thank you very much. Bring on the whores, that's my motto. I'm a Whore Fan. Hell, I'M a whore.

Not really. To say all women are sluts is sexist. To call a single woman a slut is not. Especially if she does something like oh... I don't know... perform oral sex on another woman in public.

If that's not a slut, I'd like to met a girl who truly is.
