The Matrix (BLU-RAY) Spartacus: 50th Anniversary Edition (BLU-RAY) The Breakfast Club: 25th Anniversary Edition (BLU-RAY)
My wife picked this up for me: I'd never seen it until I watched it today. I thought it was pretty awesome. Can't wait to check out the bonus documentary. I also found this today at the grocery store for $4.99:
The Bloodstained Shadow (88 Films UK Blu-ray) Don't Answer the Phone (Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray) Ghosts of Mars (Indicator UK Blu-ray) John Carpenter's Vampires (Indicator UK Blu-ray) Lair of the White Worm (Lion's Gate Blu-ray) Parents (Lion's Gate Blu-ray)
Fuck yeah! I love the Place Beyond the Pines! Movie is a masterpiece. One of the best bank robberies scenes of all time. 5 bucks? Great score!
Yessir! I think it was sadly lost on a lot of people who thought it was too indie or complex, since it basically goes in a completely different direction halfway through.
When I first saw it, months after it was released, I was shocked there wasn't more buzz around it. Phenomenal story, great character development, and I mentioned the bank robberies. I love the change in direction about half way through......thought it was a great way to tell the story. "If you ride like lightning, you're going to crash like thunder"
The people on this board are an exception, but most moviegoers want overly commercial films. And I think a movie like PBTP was too winding for them. It didn't have a wide appeal across general audiences, even though people like us thought it was awesome. But case in point. If PBTP and something with Will Ferrell were both playing at the same time, which do you think would sell more tickets?
That's a good point. I think PBTP will earn a cult following over the years. For my money, it's one of the best dramas I've seen in years. I'm mostly a horror and comedy guy myself, throw in the occasional Scorsese-esk fare, I normally don't like sitting through 2 hours of a dramatic story but help my fuck if I wasn't blown away by Pines.
Yeah I can definitely see the cult following thing happening. I need to rewatch it myself. I saw it in the theater when it first came out, and haven't seen it since.
Sorry for the double-post but I ordered City of the Living Dead and Psycho II over a week ago. Waited too long to post. I also have ordered several TV seasons and a few horror discs from Seattle Goodwill, but they're taking so damn long to arrive that I'm going to post them later. Anyway, just ordered tonight:
Child's Play (Scream Blu) Night of the Demons (Scream Blu) Meridian (Full Moon Blu) Dark Angel: The Ascent (Full Moon Blu) Waited until these were on some kind of sale, but happy to have all 4.
