If the list price is only $39.97 then that looks like the regular amazon discount price, no? Great deal regardless
Entertainment Weekly put up an extensive article online on the franchise: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/08/25/leprechaun-warwick-davis-jennifer-aniston/ Price seems to be holding on this boxset, but I can't hold out for awhile.
Except it's nothing like that because the Lep films manage to be entertaining and have a budget. New Moon Rising was like a no budget, fan film shot on video. Most of the Howling films are very dull and low budget. It's a mystery how they made so many.
Man those extras.... That "reboot" sucked major balls, though. As campy and ridiculous as the original film series was at least they weren't as awfully generic and dull as the new film. Hell it doesn't even feel like a Leprechaun movie. It's the most obvious and insulting cash grab I've ever seen and the movie can't even give us a real good shot of the damn monster (it's not a leprechaun) and they gave it some kind of retarded predator like vision as well. The only positive thing I can say is the gore isn't bad. The Hood films are masterpieces compared to the reboot.
Yea I've heard a lot of bad things about the new film. I'm not sure why they bothered calling it Leprechaun. Hopefully a new movie with Davis will come along seeing as the guy loves the character and always seems to be pushing for a new movie.
It's more insulting than bad (although it's definitely bad). It's even more confusing why they called it "Leprechaun: Origins" Origins to what? This so called Leprechaun has no relation to the Davis films at all. Another thing is Hornswoggle. I understand he's in it because of WWE but I saw nothing of his wrestling persona in the film. It could've been ANYONE playing the role. This felt like a SyFy channel monster movie but without the shitty CGI. As bad as some reboots/remakes have been over the years this one is the absolute worst for me since it feels nothing like the series its basing itself on. I wish I could back in time and stop myself from watching it. But nope.
That's the other thing; why even have a dwarf play the Leprechaun if they're just going to be a creature? Is it just so they can have that similarity with the original? I don't see why they made us think the Lep would be an evil little person again when they may as well have used a puppet. I agree that the whole Origins title is both confusing and meaningless as well. After how surprisingly good Curse of Chucky was for a DTV film I had a glimmer of hope for this but it seems like the people behind the new Lep had no love or respect for the original series. I'm dreading checking this one out :nervous:
Well damn the Leprechaun bluray set is up to 35 bucks on Amazon now. Shouldn't have hesitated to order it. Damnit.
As a standalone movie I think Leprechaun: Origins is decent. In fact I felt like it was intended for a theatrical release. As a reboot it's awful though but I see what they were going for.
Just got mine in the mail today! I'm a little curious to check out the new movie, but to be honest, I probably won't get around to watching any of these until after October. Too many Halloween themed movies to get to, and I haven't even cracked open my complete Halloween box set yet.
Origins wasn't AS BAD as so many people are saying. Don't get me wrong, it's not that great either but worth at least a watch in my opinion. The problem I had with it was that it was so...generic. It literally could've just titled "Creature" or some shit like that. It didn't even have to be a Leprechaun, it could've been just referred to as a demon or something, especially since we never get to see the damn thing, and from the glimpses we get of it, it doesn't look like what I think of when I hear the word leprechaun. the movie's acting however wasn't too bad, and there were 1 or 2 decent kills.
You have to pre-order early to lock in the standard 30% discount. You can always cancel there, so I always just lock 'em in and debate it later. I received it yesterday from Amazon... with the Slip Cover. Apparently many people are not getting the Slip Cover from Best Buy and some other places.
