    I can't share your enthusiasm.

"...while also creating a "global content powerhouse" that will invest around $2 billion annually in new content and provide "increased scale to compete even more effectively and capitalize on growth opportunities in a fast-changing marketplace."

Can't they make their endless catalog of titles available first? Lionsgate and Starz have been a thorn in the side of blu-ray collector's for the past 10 years. I'm surprised Paramount isn't involved in some way. License your catalog titles to other distributors that appreciate films and go forth with your content to try and compete with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, YouTube, etc.

The article makes no mention of Anchor Bay or physical media, so it's quite clear that Lionsgate wanted Starz primarily/solely for it's TV platform and content. If anything, I suspect Anchor Bay will be dissolved and folded into Lionsgate's existing Home Entertainment, Film and TV divisions.

And let's not forget Lionsgate is planning Chopping Mall and Blood Diner for Blu-ray soon. ;)

I'll take what I can get. I'm really hoping for a Basic Instinct remaster. The current blu-ray is garbage.

+ Young Guns Blu-ray and quite a few others. Lionsgate released some truly horrible Blu-rays.

Usually when two companies merge, it's less like an equal union and more like one eating the other. If Lionsgate buys Starz/Anchor Bay then it is pretty safe to say that within a couple of years the names Starz and AB will cease to exist. For example, when was the last time that you saw the name "Artisan" on anything?

Who the hell has the rights to the original Dawn of the Dead? It is the only film left of Anchor Bay's initial blu-rays that hasn't had a quality re-release stateside of some kind. If the rights are still with Starz/AB, this deal makes me think the film will get buried even further until the rights lapse whenever they do.

Lionsgate will probably kill off and absorb Starz and Anchor Bay as distinct names/logos/trademarks as soon as possible.

It's perplexing that they would even want to do a big deal such as this right now. Moody's has their credit rating as "Negative" and this deal itself puts them under review for a further downgrade. Lionsgate don't really have much cash readily available...they're paying out of their asses just to pay debts already. It wouldn't surprise me if this deal busts them eventually.

"The Company intends to raise $1.6 billion in debt to fund the cash portion of the deal" can only add to their woes.

And Warlock and Lair of the White Worm.

I don't think Hulu has picked up Warlock, Ghoulies III, and Lair of the White Worm for streaming since Netflix tossed them.
