Horror trivia that regular folk assume are true but are wrong. Anybody have an example? I have one:

    1) Frankenstein's lab assistant's name isn't Igor. His name is Fritz. Igor was a criminal that survived his own execution by hanging and eventually had his brain put into the monster's body.

That the killer in the first Friday the 13th is Jason.

That the monster in Frankensten is named Frankenstein.

The "Monster Mash" song tells us the assistant's name is Igor. But, I just saw Frankenstein for the first time a few weeks ago and I also noticed an intriguing lack of Igor.

I was on a Halloween hay ride recently and literally overheard this conversation:
    - That guy in the mask, you know Jason.
    - That's Michael Myers.
    - Isn't that the same guy?
    - No.

You gotta see Son of Frankenstein for the quintessential Ygor experience.

In Hellraiser, "Pinhead," which he is never referred by that name in the movie, is credited as "Lead Cenobite."

The other one I was thinking about is that a lot of people think zombies are obsessed with eating brains. Of course, we here all know that that is just the Return of the Living Dead films.

Igor's crime was body snatching for Dr. Frankenstein, "they said." So he was an assistant and may or may not have assisted in the lab. Although based on Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein those who helped him steal bodies also helped him in the lab. To argue that the hunchback in Frankenstein (1931) is not the same is splitting hairs. Much like calling "The Monster" Frankenstein is inaccurate. Dr. Pretorius refers to it himself.

Universal's canon is so messy, it's nearly impossible to pin down a timeline when Igor worked for Frankenstein. If not during Frankenstein or Bride of Frankenstein, it seems unlikely between or after Bride, then when? That really leaves only before 1931, which makes him the first or at least before Fritz and therefore the standard barer.

-Laurie Strode was not Michael Myers's little sister in John Carpenter's Halloween. The family relationship plot element was not introduced until Halloween II.

If you are what you eat, and zombies eat brains, why don't they just eat themselves?

By the same logic, Luke Skywalker is not Darth Vader's son in Star Wars: A New Hope. That plot element was not introduced until The Empire Strikes Back. :p

There's a huge misconception that Tom Savini is the biggest prick on two feet. Although I know several people who've met him in person and said he was a really cool guy. But with that being said, I'm sure there are several people out there who have met him and claim he is in fact an asshole. So who knows. But I've always found it funny how many times you hear that's he's a jerk.

Or, that they eat / 'feast' upon the living at all. I believe White Zombie and Plague of the Zombies both were classic zombie films where the zombies didn't eat people at all.

(I guess popular conjecture says it was George Romero's zombies which changed that.)

What you are describing is called retroactive continuity. It doesn't change the fact that the character doesn't appear in the original novel or the first two Universal films, and never once appears on camera as Dr. Frankenstein's subordinate in the third or fourth. In the context of the true chronology of events, it was Fritz that was the Doctor's assistant and the one that was responsible for damaging the brain, not Ygor.

It really isn't hard to see that when people picture Ygor in their mind's eye, who they are really seeing is Fritz, not the vindictive, unkillable villain as played by Bela Lugosi.

Whether he is an asshole or not, most mainstream, Joe Six Pack type people have never heard of the man.

Oh, here's a movie one. A lot of people think the Stanley Kubrick movie about the Overlook Hotel is called "The Shinning".

Similarly, they think Dario Argento's first film was called "The Bird with the Crystal Plummage".
