Well I'll tell you this, I probably enjoyed H&G Witch Hunters way more than I should have and probably didn't like Mama as much as I should have but they are completely two different animals.

True but Mama bears a tiny similarity to the original Hansel & Gretel story. Two kids in the woods - cabin / cottage - 'evil witch'.

I ended up liking both of these more than I thought I would. But H&G wins hand over fist for me, that movie was so much fun. It does everything right that Van Helsing, Underworld, and Resident Evil have gotten wrong, and that was not taking itself too seriously. If that movie took a more serious tone, which is what I was expecting, it would have been terrible. But the humor present throughout is what makes it a winner for me.

Mama was one of my most favorable surprises last year; they took it a tad too far into fantasy but overall it worked nicely. H&G was fair popcorn fluff.

I liked both of these films. they are so different that I didn't really want to choose one over the other. action vs horror/suspense. Saw them both in the theater and saw Mama again on blu-ray.
