I'm just getting into MediaBooks/Metalpaks and am wondering if anyone here are big fans of these. Diabolik seems to be the only US retailer that stocks them (albeit a bit overpriced). Just ordered the Austrian(?) Mediabook of AMOK TRAIN Cover B. I think they look cool but I guess you have to be big into special collectible packaging to spend the money on them. The picture quality on the Blu-rays vary from piss poor to just above average but the main lure for me is the packaging and artwork. In the case of Amok Train, a fairly entertaining horror cheapie, there's no high-def edition anywhere and I don't expect there to be any, at least not in the US. I also grabbed the Halloween 4-6 lenticular steelbooks from Germany (with Nathan Milliner art) which I think look really nice. Overall, these are fun to collect.

Not counting standard Digipaks and any SteelBooks, these are the thicker "MediaBooks" that I own:

    The Boogeyman
    Bride of Re-Animator
    Freakshow (a.k.a. Black Roses)
Geschichten aus der Gruft (a.k.a. Tales from the Crypt)
    Hexensabbat (a.k.a. The Sentinel)
    Re-Animator
    Trick or Treat
    Warlock: Satans Sohn
Witchcraft: Das Böse Lebt (a.k.a. Witchery)

Die Todesparty (a.k.a. Slaughter High) Metalpak – it's different than a SteelBook

What's the Blu-ray quality like on Amok Train elD?

Haven't gotten the disc yet - ordered a copy on Thursday and by Friday they were already sold out . I guess these are really popular. How is the WITCHERY PQ? Is it Blu-ray?

Was considering grabbing The Sentinel but I missed out :(

Nah, Witchery is DVD only... but it easily beats the terrible R1 DVD from Shriek Show. That was badly misframed and cut actors heads off and stuff. This one has a better 16x9 presentation, and also a Full Frame open matte version.

Diabolik recently restocked The Sentinel... it looks like they still have 3 in stock right now of the rare "B" cover. It's not a huge leap in quality over the DVD though. Universal gave them a dated HD master, like they usually do. The audio commentary is quite good though.

Received AMOK TRAIN. Transfer looks a little soft but it's likely the best transfer it will ever receive. Found a copy of the Witchery mediabook on ebay for $35. I love this stuff :)

Very solid for an 80's film, good grain structure. Lossless audio.

Cool. I just ordered it from Diabolik without checking any reviews. Sometimes I do goofy things like that. :) Glad to hear it's not disgusting.
