I had never heard of this one before, even though IMDb claims Moonstalker actually played in theaters back in the day.

Story's about the mentally troubled Bernie, his father and microwave ovens. They never had a microwave oven because they couldn't afford one so there's a great deal of conversation about microwave ovens. Since Moonstalker isn't a dead serious slasher I guess the microwave oven bit was thrown in to amuse the audience. Anyway, Bernie hacks and slashes his way to a wilderness camp with willing campers just waiting to be killed.
Yep, this is a camp slasher alright but with a little twist: all this takes place in winter. Girls taking outdoors showers AT NIGHT surrounded by snow, camping folks firing up a grill outside in the snow. Tough crowd.

Moonstalker is neither great nor sucky bad, but had its moments of fun. Apparently this was released on DVD in America but the disc is OOP? There's a Swedish DVD as well, with audio commentary by the actors and 5.1 English audio. Worth a spin.

I remember seeing this a year or two (or three) back. It is pretty bad but with some moments that make it worth watching and some pretty bad dialog.

I remember feeling pretty damn cold after watching this one. :)

I don't think the US release was all that legit - I recall them selling it for like a $1 or something. Xploited I think has it too, unless it's sold out. I can't check their site while at work :(

I have the Swedish DVD, which also includes a ton of behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot.

I've realized that this $1 DVD is one of those cardboard sleeve releases. I've already got one of these for the movie Zipperface which plays like a made for TV movie. No cursing or nudity yet it has S&M, go figure.

I just watched this the other day for the first time. Really stupid story but it was alot of fun to watch. I wasn't bored, but I wasn't wowed either. A time-waster and that's about it.

I would never even have been aware that this one existed if it wasn't for the "guess where this is from" that Hysteria Lives! posted on Facebook the other day. Now that I know it exists... nah. I love the slasher genre, but I've come to accept that some of them are totally deserving of their obscurity - like Nightmare at Shadow Woods. :)

The lengthy "Behind the Scenes" footage and Audio Commentary are quite interesting on the Swedish DVD.

For a 1989 slasher, it's pretty good. That year did not do so great with the subgenre, but I think Moonstalker had enough to recommend.

I got mine from Xploited Cinema several years back. It may be out of print by now.
