Yes, all the settings were tinkered with...it still played in full screen on all the players I tried on both of the normal TVs. No big deal, I can watch it on the HDTV or computer...but I often watch some of my movies elsewhere. SS quality control is as nonexistent as ever.
For fuck's sake, if it's not one thing it's another with these guys. And at Wizard Con the guy at the Media Blasters booth was insisting 2019 didn't have its commentary removed, that it was a different movie. These guys don't have a single clue about their own releases.
Kat, did you end up watching Amazonia? DDD has this up for like $11.99, I'm probably going to go ahead and stick this in an upcoming order. Jason did a good review for the IS release of this over at Eurohorrordvds.net; the screen shots really got me interested in this one. Did anyone else see this, how's the gore and music?
Yeah I watched it the other night and forgot to post any thoughts about it. It's a pretty good flick I thought...not a masterpiece or anything, but entertaining 80's exploitation sleaze from Italy. It's not quite as intense or disturbing (to me at least) as the back DVD cover's description would lead you to believe, but it has a few unsettling scenes. The actress who plays Catherine Miles is quite lovely! $11.99 was the same price as I grabbed it at BB, and I'd say it's worth it! I still don't know whether or not the film is truly based on a real life story, or if it was just a clever promotional gimmick.
Just checked my copy and it's the same. Nice work, Shriek Show. I wonder if anything will be done to correct this...
I highly doubt it. They screwed up the Hell High DVD even more so... an authoring flaw skips the movie about 4 or 5 minutes of an entire scene (actually it's completely missing from the disc) to the point where the movie becomes incoherent to those who've never seen it before. The commentary tracks abruptly skip about 4 or 5 minutes as well at the same time. I emailed them several times and never once got a reply as to whether or not they'd be fixing the problem. :fire: :fire: :fire:
I watched Amazonia today. Overall I found it to be a very entertaining romp. The music isn't bad and there's a decent amount of cool gore, though much of it looked pretty fake. Technical issues aside, the transfer looks pretty good. It's really a shame that this disc got fucked up.
Sounds awesome man, I appreciate you giving me the rundown. I actually went ahead and ordered this the other day when Katatonia posted his thoughts, I can't wait to check it out dispite the discs problem.
Not to add insult to injury, but apparently this dvd may be cut as well. Some are saying that the gore shots have been trimmed, hence the R rating. I can't verify this, but that's what I read.
Argh, I fear for what's going to happen with Anthropophagus. I removed this from the order I placed it in a couple days ago. If this ends up being uncut I'll just go ahead and grab this later on down the road. Thanks for the heads up.
Marc Morris mentioned in his web site that Shriek Show is working with MGM's vault material, so that MIGHT (not the word might) be a good sign for once....
I was wondering if the following DVDs have ever been available with an extra chapter index. Is there anyone out there who can confirm which of these discs once had some kind of extra booklet, etc.? -Diamonds of Kilimandjaro (Shriek Show) -Amazonia (Shriek Show) -Cannibals (Blue Underground) -Massacre in Dinosaur Valley (Shriek Show) Thanks!
Massacre in Dinosaur Valley has a double sided single page insert - one side is the chapter index, the other is an ad for shriek show dvds. No clue about the others.
