Most obscure slasher you know of?

I didn't like it as much as the classic Breeders (also from Wizard Video ;)), but I still wouldn't mind having that on DVD.

I have The Ripper on video, pretty bad flick with some good Savini fx's. The actual movie however looks very amateurish like some college kids made it in their spare time or for film class. None the less, the cheapness adds a bit to its charm. Another obscure one I remember was another Savini worked on but wasn't actually in called Nightmare. I think it came out in 1981. Pretty bad flick but if you like that kinda thing then it's worth checking out.

Savini didn't do the FX for that film, I'm pretty sure he only starred in it.

I remember the effects being quite bad, actually. As a whole, I didn't really like the film (it's from the director of Blood Cult, a superior but still awful cheapie).

The Video Violence movies aren`t that rare or obscure .... They are at best kids stuff, But fun just the same ..... How about NEKROMANTIC 1 & 2 ? Now those are films worth watching ....

  6. Perhaps the most notorious was "Snuff" from 1976. It was released by an obscure exploitation outfit called Monarch. They took two cheap low budget movies, spliced them together and claimed it was a real snuff movie.
The last scene was from the second feature and depicted a woman being tortured. The effects were pretty cheesy and were obviously fake but the controversy surrounding the campaign but inspired the creation of the Women Against Pornography feminist group which continued to stir up trouble for genre distributors. Ironically, the movie itself barely fit into either sexploitation or splatter classifications. David Freeman of the Adult Filmmakers association petitioned to have two X ratings as a result of this movie. One for porn and one for violence but nothing came of it. Earlier Hallmark releasing had distributed the German import, "Mark of the Devil" with vomit bags and their own mock classification "rated V for Violence". To make things more confusing, Aurora released a series of torture dungeon models called "Monster Scenes" that contained the ad "rated X for Xcitement". Feminists also boycotted toy stores carrying the line and it put Aurora out of business. (I have the entire series of banned models).

I picked up a Region 2 DVD of American Gothic a few weeks ago on ebay...and then yesterday I was walking through my local FYE and there was a R1 copy of it on some obscure label...for only 7.99!
I am now convinced that the best way to get any film released on DVD in the states is for me to spend some money on the import...it generally seems to get anounced within the same week!

    Now for my slasher obscurities:
Windows (1979 with Talia Shire being stalked by a psychotic lesbian)
Screams of a Winter Night (also '79...actually an anthology with a slasher segment)
Night Warning (aka Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker...what a great car crash scene!)
Frightmare (1981 featuring a young Jeffrey Combs)

Did the R1 American Gothic have any extras? Was it fullscreen? I thought the R2 disc looked fantastic.

No, it appears to be full screen and contains nothing in terms of extras...I may pick it up this weekend though. I have always enjoyed the movie and my multiregion player kinda sucks...so I will be able to enjoy it on my main player. The R2 disc was decent though...I picked it up for about 2 bucks on ebay.
