About the only obscure one I know of is Death Spa a.k.a. Witch Bitch. Not strictly a slasher (but it follows the formula), it's about a scorned lover's soul taking over the computer system of her ex's health club and killing people by various means. I bought a worn out copy of it on Ebay a while back.

Dragon also has this one out on DVD. I think it was the first Dragon DVD I ever bought in fact. The transfer is a little dark though.

Those are some good ones - I've seen Night Warning and Frightmare... Any idea where I can obtain a copy of Windows? I've never seen it and I don't believe it ever received a legit release on VHS here in the states. I also read that Windows was the first feature film released in the '80s which, for that reason alone, is enough to want to see it.

If I'm not mistaken,SNUFF (which recently got a dvd release by Blue Underground) was mostly made up of a South American (Argeninian perhaps) film called SLAUGHTER,kind of a Manson family retread, several years after it was made a husband and wife producing team (the Findlay's I think),who put out a number of low budget cheapies ,bought the rights to SLAUGHTER and tacked on a fake "real snuff murder" shot in a New York apartment. They then released the film with a bunch of phony protests by fictional decency groups.Of course, the controversy sold a lot of tickets.By the way,Mr. Findlay was later beheaded in a freak helicopter accident at the Pan Am building ! I think his wife is still in the biz ,though.

  6. Interesting info on "Snuff". I did read that the ending was actually part of another feature that they bought and just removed the one sequence for the fake 'snuff' climax. I'm not sure if they filmed separately or just borrowed it from the second movie.

The film itself was terrible and the ending was obviously fake. About the only memorable thing was the marketing gimmick. I wouldn't be surprised if Monarch contacted some feminists just so they would protest it. They did form the group WAP because of this movie. Unfortunately, most feminists
did not differentiate between porn films without violence and porn films with violence which made their objections less credible since there was a difference. "Snuff" did cause a great deal of controversy in the mid-seventies but not enough to keep Monarch releasing solvent. They folded before the eighties along with most of the 100 fly by night indies and came and went after 1968 to take advantage of the demise of the Production Code.

the end footage was indeed filmed for release and the makeup effects guy who did was sleepaways camps's own make up artist ed french

and night warning is agreat obscure slasher , and would love a DVD release anyone know if this is planned? , if not the best version in my eyes to get of this is the UNCUT u.k. pre cert on the atlantis label under the original title BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER, the box art just say nightmare maker , but the print has the complete original title.....

  8. If that's the case then I stand corrected. I'll try to find that article that claimed it was derived from another feature that Monarch purchased...
