The very-soon-to-be-released St. Patrick's Day set slasher flick. Based on the trailer, it definitely gives me a Hatchet vibe, all the more so due to the casting of Kane Hodder as the killer.

Looks like it could be good slasher movie fun.

Anchor Bay is giving the film a limited theatrical release this month on Friday the 13th, with a blu-ray and DVD release on St. Patrick's Day (Tuesday, March 17th).

Best Buy should have the blu-ray in store for $12.99 on release week, and Wal-Mart should have the DVD for $9.96. I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up the blu-ray on the 17th, since the price is cheap enough.

    Any interest?

Ah... how many words rhyme with Muck?

It looks really run-of-the-mill judging by the trailer. It looks worth a rental at least though.

Well I watched this last night, and.............this is one of the biggest disappointments I've seen for a while, the acting non existent, the script, terrible, mostly resorting to swearing, the story, what story, the physical effects, lots of splashing blood, little else, the fantastic sleeve, nothing to do with the movie. I was so looking forward to this, it sounded from all the hype that it could be like hatchet (which I love), but no it was awful, forget muck, a more appropriate title would be shit!

I don't know about anyone else, but sometimes I feel like a real sucker when it comes to horror movies. When I originally saw the trailer for this I thought "Wow, that looks terrible!" but I still watched it like an idiot. And surprise, surprise, it sucked. Cringe worthy dialogue, crummy acting, boring direction and a plot that virtually goes nowhere.
My biggest complaint about this one would have to be the divisive nature of the casting and directing. Ever single person in this film is fuckable, and they're all half naked and glistening through out the films run time. The close ups on asses and titties were so blatant and reoccuring that I started to feel like my intelligence was being insulted. I guess the filmmakers thought it would be good enough if every single person was super sexy in order to make up for the lack of character depth, that way the viewer would some how feel bad for them when they died. I don't care how hot any of them are because they were all a bunch of shallow, superficial assholes. Honestly, I began to question whether or not this was a horror film or a soft core porn.
The villains are on screen for less than a third of the film with zero explanation for their motive. I wish they were on screen more because, not only did they look cool, but the main characters couldn't die quick enough in my opinion. I doubt I will sit through a worse horror film this year.

From what I've read Muck is the middle part of a trilogy, the next one will be a prequel and then the third one will take place after this one, so maybe they can explain the albino rape monsters in the prequel.

Unfortunately, I thought Muck was way too long and filled with too much unnecessary bullshit (the bar scene, the cousin, the naked girl in front of the mirror, the cousin) I doubt I'd bother watching two more Muck movies from the same director.

Ouch! They even compared it to Wicked Lake, which was pretty bad.

I've been seeing other similar reviews as well.

I'm still going to buy the blu-ray on Tuesday. It's only $9.99 at Best Buy and I'm a sucker for all things slasher, so my curiosity will eventually get the better of me. Might as well grab it now while it's cheap.

Trekked out to get it this morning, so no turning back now. Great price for a new release blu-ray, only $9.99 at Best Buy. Will try to watch it late tonight, considering it's set on St. Patrick's Day, but we'll see what happens.

I usually don't bother one bit with blu-ray.com's reviews, but this one is the most purely accurate reviews of a film I have ever read.

Yeah, from all I've read here and elsewhere, it sounds like a pretty worthless film.

I'm interested to hear what CPT thinks of it...

I've seen other reviews that were just as brutal as the blu-ray.com one, but Muck is nowhere near as bad as the reviews are suggesting. I thought it was totally harmless. If you've kept up with some of Starz / Anchor Bay's other recent indie slasher offerings (for instance: Sorority Party Massacre, Machine Head, House Of Dust, In Fear, The Black Waters Of Echo's Pond, Scorned, The Victim, etc), then I guarantee you've seen much much worse. I thought the trailer was a pretty accurate representation of exactly what you're getting into.

I think the reason that people seem to be spitting so much venom at the movie and giving all those others a pass is because it tries to be "meta". Unfortunately, the script isn't as smart as it thinks it is (it's not smart at all, to be honest), so there's definitely a smugness hanging over the film that's a bit off-putting. You could tell they were trying to be Hatchet, but ended up being more like Hatchet II. Even though the "meta" aspect completely failed, I thought it was satisfying enough as a dumb goofy slasher flick.

There's really no plot to speak of. There isn't even a beginning or an ending really, it begins with a group of hot 20-somethings running for their lives through the swamp and it ends the same way. The characters are idiots and the constant barrage of one-liners fall flat. For instance, one character goes for help, makes it to a bar, orders himself a few shots, calls his cousin to come get them instead of the police (the director's attempt at adding more victims to the mix), then runs back into the swamp to help his friends. Yeah, it's that kind of movie.

There's some really eye-rolling quirks, such as naming the town "West Craven", and in case you missed that little joke the first time they repeat it about 10 times shortly after that. One of the guys apparently thinks he's Ash from Evil Dead, spouting off bad one-liner after bad one-liner. Definitely lots of gratuitous nudity, plus non-stop close-ups of breasts and butts even when they're clothed. For instance, pick-axe bursts through the windshield, cut to girl screaming, cut to close-up of her jiggling breasts. If you watch the end credits, they cast the local "Miss Cape Cod" winners from the past five years or so.

Although a lot of the criticisms in those reviews are absolutely correct, I still found the movie entirely watchable. There are scenes that go on way too long, but I never lost interest. It's well made from a technical perspective, suitably atmospheric, there was even one scene that I found a little creepy.

As the sucker who watches every little Miner's Massacre, Jack The Reaper, Spiker, Girls Gone Dead, etc that comes down the line, I thought it was harmless fun. If you're not into that sort of thing, you're clearly not going to like it. Just because the reviews are so overwhelmingly bad, I'd probably recommend waiting for it to hit NetFlix or the SyFy Channel. But me being the rare exception, I don't regret buying it and I'd even watch a sequel / prequel.

However, I will say that if you're looking for an extremely fun slasher flick with lots of breasts, definitely check out the superb Girl House before settling on this one.

Man, almost all talk of this is bad or worse.
I haven't got a chance to watch it yet but did blind buy it from cover and Playboy mentions (of course they are just hyping it without seeing it since Jaclyn is in it).
But, Black Waters of Echoes Pond had similar reviews, and I enjoyed that one. I often enjoy crap it seems everyone else on earth hates. At least there'll be tittays-a-plenty, so I can't lose too bad!:D:banana:

.... and right in the fucking middle I find myself again.
I wanted to like it, and almost kinda did. Some parts were great, some were eye-rollingly bad. A few things made sense, many more did not. I'm still not sure if 2 of the girls are dead yet, and want to shit on the editor's car and face. I'm also not sure if some bad things are a by-product of incompetence or trying to be wayyyyy too cleaver and cute.

But I can't wait for the prequel and sequel!:eek1::eek: For some fucking reason I can't explain, I have to know where this came from, and where it goes. God I hope shit gets explained and makes more sense than the middle part by itself did. Fuck, I'm stuck in the Muck.

Everything in your post is dead-on, at least for my money. Although I think I walked away from Muck liking it a little more than you, you did a better job summing up how I feel about the movie than I did in my own review. :) Thanks for the heads-up about Girl House, by the way. I will absolutely have to check that one out.

I need to watch this again as I was pretty out of it fist time around but I didn't think it was as bad as people are saying. Lots of tits and ass is always a welcome thing in my book. I've read some people say it's demeaning to women but there are some hunky topless men thrown in there too. Most of the cast is pretty hot which I can't say is a bad thing and I thought the acting was decent for a low budget flick of this type. I'd see the prequel and sequel if they get made as this one made me curious.
