Got THE DEAD ARE ALIVE a week or two ago. Hated it. Got NIGHT CHILD in the mail yesterday. Hated it. Next up, STAR CRASH.

Star Crash is pretty much the worst of these three. So, you might actually enjoy it! :D

I've seen quite a bit of it before, but it is a movie that sounds more enjoyable on paper than it actually is. For me anyway.

I saw THE DEAD ARE ALIVE in a theater and remember liking it. NIGHT CHILD is boring but STARCRASH is awesome.

today i decided to splash out a bit and got me a couple of euro trash flicks (and 1 renowned giallo) for maybe a bit too much money

Don't Torture A Duckling (new Shameless version)
    Hands Of Steel
    Blast Fighter (both AWE releases)
    Nightmare Beach (Italian import)

here's hoping they will be worth my precious cents!

Depends on what you paid. I know that the Shameless DVDs (at least the older ones) are cheap and Nightmare Beach can be had new for about € 7.
The other two are a bit higher I guess.
    Still, great choices.

did you order those books from Amazon? because they are quite cheap (about 21€ for Any Gun Can Play)

the book about Luciano Rossi is very nice, very interesting to read too!

Yeah, Amazon was the cheapest. Amazon.co.uk has it for about € 21, but I didn't qualify for free shipping (shipping = € 7) , so I went with Amazon.com which cost me € 25 in totla :)
Just had confirmation my order shipped! YAY!

I had a coupon for a different store where I bought the Luciano book and the Tull CD.

Righto, it's "that time of the year" again! ;)

Being on tight budgets all the time, the only way for me to go on a shopping spree is after I have my birthday :)

Here's the stuff I have chosen to be in my collection this year:

El Ultima Fin de Semana (Norber Films)
    Assassination (01/ IIF)
    Das Syndicat
    Plot of Fear (Raro USA)
Night of the Devils (Raro USA)
    Sweet Body of Deborah (Njuta??)
    Massacre Time (Wild East)

And I will add some music in the next few weeks I'm sure!

Last weekend I attended a screening of a double bill of Argento's THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE and the later Giallo THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARDH.Both were 35mm prints ,in pretty good condition, but bearing the rerelease titles,BIRD was THE PHANTOM OF TERROR (from a 1982 rerelease from Grindhouse exhibiter 21st Century, and VICE was titled THE NEXT VICTIM).The theater (The Colony Theater in Raleigh N.C.) was packed,it was a stormy night, perfect for a horror double header !

I've seen BIRD several times, but never with a theater audience. It got a GREAT reaction, people really got into it,not just the scares but the laughs,Argento's odd humour really worked.
I had never seen WARDH before.None of the characters are particularly likeable and it's really about rather smarmy people.Oddly this doesn't really hurt it ! It's an entertaining pic, picks up speed in the last quarter and gets fairly clever, and the stalk and slash scenes are effective.Again,a seedy outing about sexual deviance, but strangely entertaining. Some of the dialogue is unintentionally funny but that actually seemed to play well with the audience too !

The Colony regularly screens old cult films,I would recommend it to anyone who lives in the area.

Out of curiosity, anyone know which version of VICE is the best available on DVD ?

My list changed a bit (and keeps changing).
Will post what I've bought in a couple of weeks.
I'll try to include that new German release of Lenzi's Cynic/ Rat/ Fist as well..

"Massacre Time" is already on its way. Didn't want to wait too long because these Wild East DVDs go OOP very quickly.

Righto, this is what's coming in the next couple of weeks:

    • Fulci's Massacre Time (aka. The Brute and the Beast) already ordered.

    DVD:

    • Sabata - Parolini (well, people on the net say it's great. Hope so. Bought all three of 'em ;))
    • Adios Sabata - Parolini
    • Return of Sabata - Parolini
    • Das Syndikat - Stefano Vanzina (apparently this one's a great crime thriller. Great cast anyway. I think I'm in for a big treat!)
    • Die Gewalt bin ich - Umberto Lenzi (this is The Cynic, The Rat & The Fist. Never seen it, but apparently it's one Lenzi's better ones. Only legit release with English option.)
    • Sweet Body of Deborah - Romolo Guerrieri (one of those DVDs I still needed to pick up. It's been quite some time since I picked up a Giallo)
    • The Smuggler - Lucio Fulci (I didn't like it years ago. This Swedish DVD is cheap and the best version around. Will give it a second shot)
    • King Crimson Live in Argentina

    CD:

    • Alamaailman Vasarat - Kaarmelautakunta
    • Alamaailman Vasarat - Vasaraasia
    • Beardfish - The Void
    • David Sylvian / Robert Fripp - The First Day

And I will add "Plot of Fear" (sold the old release) and "The Night of the Devils" when RARO has another cool offer.

And I might not yet be finished...

There, I did it. Ordered both in the RaroVideo 2=1 Weekend Special Offer (Facebook). Two discs for only $20.98 really is a bargain!

    Coming my way:
    Django Prepare a Coffin (Baldi)

Here's what I intend to order in a few months:

    • Assassination
    • Liberi, Armati... Italian DVD. Much cheaper and IIRC the Italian dub is preferred.
    • Padroni delle Citta Italian DVD. Almost the same as the new one IIRC.
    • 1000 Dollar Kopfgeld ==>> Giallo/ Western hybrid. Could be fun :)
    • Forbidden photos.. Need the Italian version by Camera Obscura :)
    • Bianco Vestito per Mariale A new Giallo for me. At last!
    • Grand Duel Lee van Cleef in one of his better roles...they say..
    • Shoot First... Die later!
    • Milano Rovente (announced by RARO) The more Lenzi, the better :)

And I will see about La Banda del Gobbo by FilmArt soon (??)

    The list changed a bit:

    1. Assassination
    2. Squadra Antiscippo
    3. Liberi, Armati...
    4. Padroni Delle Citta
    5. Napoli Serenata
    6. Squadra Volante
    7. A Pistol for Ringo
    8. Return of Ringo
    9. Shoot First, Die Later
    10. Frauen bis zum Wahnsinn...
    11. Vestito per Mariale
    12. Al Tropico de Cancro
I guess it can change again. Though many of these titles will stay on the list :)
