Part 4/Return of/Next Generation is less a sequel and pretty much a remake of the first movie. In fact, it was promoted as a remake originally, THEN a "real" sequel. But I think remake is a better description.

But, yes. There really is no structure throughout the series. I personally love the original 4 and 3-D. I could care less for the Platinum Dunes crap.

Honestly the only TCM film I dislike is 4. I love McConaughy in it but I hated, hated, HATED how they portrayed Leatherface. I watch it here and there for some drunken shits and giggles but that's it.

    The rest I love/enjoy.

It actually acknowledges the first film with Leather face being in that leg brace due to the chainsaw cut he gave himself at the end of the first film. That and grandpa seem to be the only connections to the first film as they strangely don't explain why he's got a new family now.

It's cool, it's not like the film goes to much effort to connect itself to the original. We just get some small nods which is still nice.

There's a laundry list of shit that they strangely do not explain in that movie.

In defense, the opening narration does mentions "over the next several years, at least 2 minor yet apparently related incidents were reported."

I don't think a lot needed explaining. I would have just liked to know how he got with this new fam.

Or how an almost 40 year old chick looks 20, which even they knew was bullshit because of all of the clever camera tricks they used to cover up every date that was shown on newspapers and tombstones.

You realize I was talking about TCM3 right? I hated the 3D one.

I haven't seen four in a while, but I remember there being contradictions being in the opening scroll. I'd have to rewatch the sequels, I haven't seen The Next Generation in a while.

Didn't one of them say that Sally died in a mental hospital shortly after the original film, yet she has a cameo at the end of Next Generation? I also remember one of them suggesting that "the Cook" had been arrested immediately after the events in the original film, which doesn't make sense due to his appearance in TCM2. I'm sure there were more little things. I just remember marathoning the series over a couple nights and none of it adding up. It seemed like all the sequels were trying to be direct sequels solely to the original film.

    All good man
All the sequels are sequels to just the original movie (apart from The Beginning which is a prequel to the remake). It's a weird franchise in that regard.

That's kinda true. The only "real" sequel (except for 3-D) is the 1986 Part 2.

Leatherface was a quasi sequel. And Next Gen was technically the first remake of sorts - twisting original scenes and featuring similar characters.

    Here's a good review of Part 4. http://get-the-buzzz.weebly.com/the-return-of-the-texas-chainsaw-massacre.html

The first three are it for me. The last four have just been abysmal.

The remake and it's prequel are far better than 3 and 4 to me, but I do need to give 4 another try now that I know it's a "re-envisioning" and not just a terrible sequel that replays the events of the first film and makes Leatherface a full on drag queen.
I want to like part 3, but honestly it really just kinda sucks.
The last one might've been the worst yet, but the info about this makes it sound like a contender!

I'd like to see them take from the end of the remake, with the one-armed Leatherface finding new adventures and victims.

    Yep, can't disagree here :)
I don't mind the remake and prequel. Considering they're Platinum Dunes films they aren't too bad.
I like that part 3 feels a little more slasher like with its woods/swamp setting. I like the atmosphere there and enjoy some of the characters in that one.
The 4th film is pretty bad. Its mainly an interesting watch for its stars but not much else.

I'd also like to see a sequel to the remake with a one armed Leatherface. I think that could get pretty crazy if done right.

Well, there was a couple of years BETWEEN the prequel and remake, so I always figured they'd fill that time with other movies. In fact, it makes sense to leave a few years. Tobe Hooper was at one point going to produce a TV series called Texas Chainsaw Chronicles, which would have fit perfectly within that time frame.

I am surprised they never made more films in the remake universe.
