Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for the standard edition.
I wish he started to release both a Steelbook and a Standard edition at the same time, for people (like me) who don't care for Steelbooks anymore.

Well, our good friends from Vinegar Syndrome hooked me up today at "The Archive" - got a copy slipcover and all. I'm glad they don't ship! I can waltz in there and find OOP titles at a normal price.

Yeah but $60 US for a steelbook Bluray isn't a normal price in my book. I'm actually really surprised it sold out priced that high.
At least I know if I do end up wanting the Synapse transfer that there will be a normal priced edition down the line.
I'm pretty excited for this 4k steelbook though.

Well, by normal I mean it's not upcharged in a third party way - not ridiculously anyway.

I'm stoked these doods are so close by.

Synapse was selling it directly for $49.99 INCLUDING shipping and handling. I'd call the 20% increase The Archive did up an charge.

It's nice to be able to walk into a store and pick something up, but I ain't paying $10 extra for the privilege.

I think you missed the point - I missed out on the luxury of ordering directly from Synapse before it sold out. The Archive was cheaper than any other 3rd party. If The Archive sold it for $49.99 they'd be making zero profit. Suggested retail is $89.95, hence why Amazon is so freakin' high. The important take away here is if something sells out and jerks are trying to capitalize off eBay, or wherever, I can simply go to the central part of town and still get it cheaper than any other 3rd party reseller.

That's alright then. And hey, I got suckered into Pieces from Diabolik for $40 to finally get that damn puzzle so I'm not one to judge. :D

Haha, that puzzle thing was hilarious. Everyone was like "Did I get the puzzle? Is there a puzzle in here? I better have gotten that damn puzzle!".

The standard 2-disc set is like $26 on Amazon.com right now for anyone who’s interested. That’s a way more reasonable price.

I just saw that a new 4K version of THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMMAGE is playing next month on the art house circuit. I saw it in a theater a few years ago in a decent 35mm print (under the re-release title THE PHANTOM OF TERROR) but would love to see a new restoration on the big screen.

I picked up the steelbook at Cinema Wasteland last week. It has been some years since I've seen Suspiria. It is a jaw-dropping reference quality transfer, but to me, the film does not hold up. Weird dialogue exchanges and hardly a plot. Uncut, it used to be considered hyper violent, but with the allowance of gore in films today it pales and doesn't save the film. The only reason I watched until the end was for the beauty of the use of colors. I find Tenebre and Phenomena to be much more entertaining films.

I actually find Tenebre to have really poor and silly dialogue and look a little bland colour wise. I do agree that Suspiria is light on plot and has some silly moments but the lighting and music give it a life of its own to me. It's really dreamlike and spooky. Plus Goblin's score is just great.

I watched the Synapse BD a few weeks back, and it looked and sounded fantastic. But I'm not sure I'm going to revisit it again anytime soon.
The movie is still great during the first hour, but the movie flies of the rails during the climax. Call me crazy, but I actually prefer Inferno.

The reason why the dialogue is so silly, and they act like children at times, is because the girls at the school was meant to be much younger to begin with. I wish they had changed the script, when they went with older actors.

Still, it's a classic, and has some great moments, even though (for me) it doesn't hold up, all the way through :)
