Ill wait for a standard case release.
My Suspiria-senses must have been tingling 'cause I logged onto this board first thing and kept poking it this morning. I usually only check it out during lunch.
Got my order in, and it was surprising they had it this early, but I see they're projecting mid-November which is what I predicted. Worth reading carefully:
I was disappointed (but accepting) to hear the English version in theaters, but I am now concerned to read this:
Did they concentrate their restoration only on the English sound track? That's where the emphasis is in the description. I know "they" argue no onset sound was recorded so it doesn't matter, but the voice inflection of the Italian versions are still radically different than what's on the English tracks. And I feel more in tune with Argento's intentions. And so I prefer the Italian, and hope this is just an understatement of the Italian description.
The HDN exclusives of the SteelBook look pretty damn nice: http://www.hidefninja.com/community...hi-def-ninja-black-label-edition-3-usa.88221/
Man, why do these amazing sets go on sale at the end of the month, during the final slog to payday? Hopefully the demand isn't so high that there won't be any preorders available in six days. Diabolikdvd charges immediately for preorders now, from what I've been told.
Yeah I know, I'm tapped out too. I had just enough to squeeze this in, but it has been a taxing month.
Diabolik does indeed charge upfront for all pre-orders now, but then again so does Synapse (via PayPal).
I have never bought a Synapse steelbook before, but this is SUSPIRIA! Placed my pre-order with Diabolik.
Yep, which is why the timing just kills me. The next week is going to go by agonizingly slow.
This price is less than desirable, but, for the love of God, this is why we wake up and go to work every day.
Am I the only one who doesn't really like the steelbook front art?
Not sure if I'm going to jump on this yet or hold out for a standard release. It's definitely tempting but the price is hefty which is my main dilemma.
(Darth Vader voice) There IS no conflict.
I don't like the steelbook either. The artwork on the wrap is much better. It should have been the other way around. It's very similar to the Opera steelbook. I think they want to address the OCDs.
There MAY be a theatrical screening of the new DCP at the Naro Cinema (a great vintage arthouse theater) in Norfolk, VA.on SEPT. 29th at 9PM.The film is definitely playing, I think they are negotiating for the new DCP.
Yeah, I might a wait for the standard edition.
Including shipping to Sweden, the Steelbook are gonna end up costing me $75-80.
And I don't like the artwork either.
I wish he released a standard edition at the same time as the Steelbook.
Give us a choice.
I agree. Definitely lame to have to wait for a standard release. Hopefully it's out sooner rather than later.
It'll probably be about a year, like it always is with Synapse. If you can get past the disappointment, it's tough to deny the humor of using the same business model for Popcorn and Suspiria.
Usually takes seven months. Popcorn was released in March and will have its standard release in October. And last year Tenebre was released in February with its standard release in September of that year. So the standard release of Suspiria will probably be available in June.
But it may be sooner. They're putting out 6000 but I still have an inkling that this steelbook will sell out. If not sell briskly in comparison. Then Synapse may up the timeline.
I actually like the artwork - so a definite buy for me - I like steelbooks too- but if you wait for the standard edition you do save some cash which is nice.

The Platinum Tripack as already sold out. So that's 75 off the top.
Thanks for the specifics, X-human. I would definitely anticipate a faster-than-usual sell-out. The Suspiria restoration hype machine has been working overtime for a long time now. Anyone who wants the steelbook had better pony up soon.
Screw it, I just ordered despite being low on cash this is a must have release for the collection. I don't want to miss out on this and paying $100 or more on Fleabay.
