    Nightcrawler (2014)
    Directed by Dan Gilroy
    8/10
Jake Gyllenhaal (Zodiac) plays a driven man who is desperate for work and muscles his way into the world of L.A. crime journalism but he blurs the line between observer and participant. The film is the directorial debut from long time screenwriter Dan Gilroy (Bourne Legacy) and he puts together a neon lit compelling film with some great characters. The first hour is a little bit of a mixed bag but the film really comes together for the second hour and ramps up some great intensity. I would not be surprised to see nominations for Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo come awards season but perhaps this film will be too on the fringes to get the appropriate traction with the establishment.

I saw ot at TIFF and loved it. Enjoyed it much more then both Interstellar or Gone Girl. Which seems to be getting all the love.

Yeah, Nightcrawler will be in my top 5 for the year for sure where as Gone Girl and especially Interstellar will not be in the top 10

Saw this just the other night and really enjoyed it, it would make for a great double feature along side American Psycho. I can't say it was perfect, but if Gyllenhaal doesn't at the very least get a nomination for best actor at the Oscars there is no justice in this world.

This movie and Scareface are both very mean spirited films. Zodiac was a visually stunning film in it's own right as this one also.

Just watched this and loved it. Jake G. was fantastic in it. I hated his character from start to finish, so that told me he was doing a great job. I watched this directly after End of Watch, which also stars Jake G., he is a fine actor and I hope to see more of him this year.
