http://classicflix.blogspot.com/2007/09/nosferatu-ultimate-edition-in-november.html I have the original Kino DVD which looks amazing, i wonder how much better it can get....i'll probably end up picking this one up though.
We're getting it in R2 from Eureka. I'd read somewhere that the R2 was going to be a better edition somewhere, could be wrong though. The R2 has a better cover too. I'll be grabbing this.
"Backed by an orchestral performance of Hans Erdmann's 1922 score (recorded in 5.1 stereo surround)" Thank CHRIST! The original Kino release had 2 ridiculously BAD scores on it.
This one is definitely on my "want" list, despite having both the original Kino release and the "Restored Edition" Image release from '97. And might I add that the UK artwork that dwatts posted is all sorts of badass.
Both releases are identical in the special features department, and while the Eureka cover is cool, i still kinda like Kino's better.
Here's the R1 one: I think the R2 is a little bit different from what we've had in the past, love it.
For those who don't know, Eureka's Master of Cinema series is the UK equivalent of Criterion DVD label. Their edition contains the same documentary as the Kino, but it also has an exclusive full-length audio commentary by Brad Stevens & R. Dixon Smith and a 96-page book containing articles about the film.
Thought so - I'd read somewhere it was going to be superior in one way or another..... and not just the cover...
http://www.joblo.com/arrow/ According to them^ the Kino DVD will have the 96 page booklet and the commentary.
I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not in a complete rush to replace the old disc, but if I find the Ultimate edition for cheap somewhere down the road I'll put some serious thought into picking it up.
I never got around to purchasing this classic film, so I'm definitely picking up the new Kino DVD. Good to hear it will contain the commentary and booklet. Thanks for the heads up!
Kino always mess up their dvds. Bad conversions, non-progressive tranfers, low bit-rate... And most of the times they do that while having good materials to work with. On the other hand, Eureka has turned into a great company (after some horrid early releases). Their Kwaidan DVD pisses all over Critterion's release in every way possible, and that's quite a task.
I not too sure about that info from joblo. They are the only site to have claimed it to have the same extras as the Eureka release and the info seemed to have been copied and pasted word for word from the Eureka press release: joblo article: http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=9485 Eureka press release: http://dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65908 All other websites including Amazon claims it only has the same 56 minute documentary and the same restoration documentary, which were neither produced by Eureka: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000VUQ4HW/arrowinthehea-20
That will be time to change from Image's version, then - there was no need to do that with Kino's weak previous release. Hopefully this new version includes the proper, full-length Act V...
This will be a quadruple-dip for me. I have the first Image disc, the restored Image disc and the Kino disc (from the German Horror Classics box set). It's one of my favs so it's a must buy for me.
