Last Friday, while home visiting the family in Ohio, I took my little brother to
Horrorama 2004 ( yeah, I don't care who I warp ), which was pretty packed and a damn good time. Between the costume and screaming contests...and Dr. Creep's stabs at humor ( his story about the organizers accidently showing a porno a few years back was priceless! ) , we were subjected to some craptacular films:

    (in order of showing)

Horror of Dracula - EXTREMELY plodding and predictable Hammer fare. Lee and Cushing got great applause from the audience though...and their star turns were the saving grace here. The print was pretty good, considering the age of the film....although there were a few spots where the color was faded-out badly.

Toss of the Coin - A 12 minute short that was pretty impressive! A man dies from an accidental electrocution in his own bathtub (i.e. plugged-in radios perched on bathtub ledges and cats don't mix). Shortly thereafter, both a demon and an angel arrive on the scene....and both parties want to claim the man's soul. Predictable ending, but still has some cute moments and great dialogue.

The Thrill Killers - Awful Steckler opus about escaped mental patients threatening malt shop cariactures. Cheesy! At this point, the audience had to bond together and go in the Mystery Science Theater mode to survive this puppy. Which was good, because the next film was....

The Demoniacs - Wow! What a piece of mind-numbing crap! The audience was ALL over this strange French concoction! Take Ronald McDonald, the Olsen twins, angry rapist pirates...and throw them into a film that looks like it was edited by a some poor soul in the midst of an alcoholic binge and you START to get an idea of how bad this was. The entire audience was in laughing fits all the way through! We are talking tears streaming down the face here folks. How bad was it? Well, after the film was over, they held a contest for audience members to come up and summarize in one sentence what they learned from The Demoniacs. Let me just say that all the responses were negative...and a good portion of them are not repeatable in public. :p

    and last, but not least.....

Burial Ground - Easily the crowd favorite! It was going onto three in the morning, but everyone got their second wind watching a great print of zombi-fu! Yes, people still applaud decapitations and disembowlments heartily. :p And of course, the greatest audience reaction came from that historic moment at the finale, when zombie-fu took on breast-fu in a climatic battle to the finish. :nervous:

Good times! Thank you Dr. Creep! :)

    Invitation (2003)

Supernatural no budget "revenge" flick shot on video. Borrows from "The Shining", "Stir Of Echoes" and a bit from "Blair Witch 2".
Story is blah, settings are cheap (what else to expect?), however - editing and sound effects are extremly well done. Brief nudity (six breasts) but not much gore I'm afraid. Only one (more or less) cool death scene (which was stolen directly from Sleepaway Camp 3).

*note to the director Jeff Burton* More cheese please :(

Invitation is crap, stylish home made video crap, but still crap. It's not like you are making Citizen Kane fer christ's sake. Lighten up!
Get some ideas and watch Hellspawn, twice. Now that's how movies shot on video should be done! :D

Words to live by my friend. Words to live by.

I spent my evening watching Arrested Development DVDs instead of horror. I feel almost guilty about it. I will have to rectify that tomorrow.
