'Friday the 13th' box set; new 'Resident Evil,' 'Species' SEs

    By Peter M. Bracke

    Jason Lives - 2:00pm
He's got a face only a mother could love and he wields one very mean machete. His name is Jason Voorhees, and he's the antithesis of Santa Claus: if he finds out you've been naughty instead of nice, he won't just pass over your house for presents, he grab the fireplace poker, stab you twenty times and stomp on your remains. And that's just for starters.

Now, he's finally getting a DVD big enough to hold him. Ready to slash its way to stores in time for Halloween, Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan - The Ultimate Edition DVD Collection will arrive on October 5th from Paramount Home Entertainment. While fans undoubtedly hoped for uncut, bloodier versions of all eight of the Paramount flicks, the set will include the R-rated cuts of each film (all in anamorphic widescreen, with parts 1 to 5 in Dolby mono, 6 and 8 in 2.0 surround, and only 7 in full blown 5.1) spread two pics apiece across four dual-layer discs. Extras include audio commentaries on Parts 3, 6, 7 and 8, plus the "Killer Extras" bonus disc with five featurettes, trailers for all of the flicks and deleted scenes and censored footage. Paramount has set no retail price, but suggested list will be around $59.95. Check out the press release for the full specs (http://www.dvdfile.com/news/web_wire/press_release/titles/fridaythe13th.html) and click on the box art above for a blowup.

This boxset really's gonna suck. I was expecting so much better. Far from a definitive boxset. Probably gonna buy it though.

I won't be getting it at all. As I said on another thread, I already own my favorites in the series (Parts 1-3) and with the exception of Part 5, I don't really care for any of the others in the series. Unless they happen to rerelease it with all the films uncut and with more extras in an effort to get fans to double dip, I won't be purchasing it.

:O That case looks great. I'll probably get this set even though it's not the best it can be... I guess it really doesn't matter to me, anyways, since I haven't seen any of 1-8 uncut.

It's not the Jason X mask, if you're refering to the robo one.

You'll be able to find it for less than 60 bucks. I don't own any from the series and since they're anamorphic I think I'll be going for it. Paramount's never going to release this shit uncut, it's just not gonna happen.

    Not the "robo" mask.

The "regular" Jason mask before he becomes Uber. That is definitely that mask...only BRONZE.

My friend, you have yet to apparently realize that it's a free market, and that beggars can't be choosers. And unfortunately, lately the free market seems to have turned an awful lot of us into beggars.

I'm really dissapointed there's not a commentary track with Savini and Joseph Zito for the final chapter. And what happend to the commentaries for 1 & 2? Definitley not difinitive.

Like I said all along - no uncut, no sale. Paramount can F themselves sideways with this set. This just goes to show how far petitions and letters will get you. :fuck:

  17. Petitions and letters rarely get you far...

I preferred the method of asking one of my customers when I worked at the porn shop to pass a message along...he works for Paramount's Toronto office and although he didn't work in the DVD production or PR offices here he did know those people so I asked him to pass along a message....I don't know if he did or not but you can attract more flies with honey than with vinegar...

...also, he was really gay and I've found that gay guys think I'm cute...so I use it to my advantage.

Nice job leaving out the commentary for the first two F 13, only the two best movies in the series. And why not include commentary from Joe Zito and Tom Savini for F 13 part 4? Anyone who heard the commentary from The Prowler knows that they seem to work well together and share good, insightful knowlege of the films they work on.

Am I to understand there is no commentary or extras elaboration on the gloriness that is part five? And I'm not being sarcastic, by the way...

Especially as they have a commentary on part I in the bag. Of course they seem to be holding off on such things - this won't be the last release people.
