That's what this thread needed, discussion of Rob Zombie movies. Next, I want to compare how Hostel is compared to The Blair Witch Project, Land of the Dead, Open Water, or say maybe High Tension.

Say what you want about House of 1000 Corpses, but at least stuff actually happened in the first part of the movie save ass 'n titties.

I am not a Hostel hater though, so I guess I should leave this to the them.

    That's what every thread needs.

Yeah, Movies that don't have someone getting their face blown off in the first ten minutes all suck! ;)

Actually, the debate was over which film was made by a bigger hack. Is that just not relevant enough in this thread? Is this digression distracting readers from the more insightful discussions happening here? Should we have started a poll or something instead? ;)

While I don't think that Hostel was even close to a classic, its certainly better than the following:

    - Ring II
    - Exorcism of Emily Rose
    - Boogeyman
    - Cry_Wolf
    - The Grudge (or any other American remake of a Japanese horror flick)

The problem with you people is that you're too busy living in the past. There's never going to be another TCM, or Night of the Living Dead. There's never going to be another Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street. Everyone keeps waiting for someone to re-create whats already been done, but its NEVER going to happen.

    Get over it.

You're not paying attention. There will be another Halloween and probably another NOES. There's already been another TCM and 2 NOTLDs.... :p

Rick Hoffman is actually from my town, he went to the school literally down the road from my old high school. Weird. Anyways:

This was really great. Started out silly but eventually it became a very engrossing, gross-out horror film with loads of atmosphere. The audience was excellent...I hope you can all see this with a large crowd of horror fans. Oh, man. This was really great. This year just started but I can't think of any film last year that made me walk out of the theatre with a huge grin on my face. Just a whole hell of a lot of fun. Not "Devil's Rejects" good, but it's still really great.

Very disappointed! The fifteen minutes of torture scenes were not worth having to put up the hour and fifteen minutes, of crap. This movie tried to hard to be funny as well, only it wasn't. Just my opinion. If you like boobs, go check it out, it is the highlight of this thing.

I went into this film cold. All I saw beforehand was part of the trailer on TV. Anyway, I liked the way the film unfolded and how it made me feel for the characters that I didn't even like in the beginning. Anyway, the girl that played Natalya was pretty damn hot.

I didn't mean to say that "Hostel" was as good as TCM or LHOTL but that they are similarly themed. I can't help it, but to me "Saw" really was just a comedy.

    Who cares?

Hostel haters who need to find every possible thing to bitch about Roth about, despite the fact he A) probably had nothing to do with the design of the posters, B)alot of movie posters look similar, and C)the fact there are 4 other posters for Hostel aside from those 2 that are pretty original...(masked guy holding a chainsaw like a phallic symbol, drill going into guys mouth, etc)
Anyways, pretty sad when you bash a director for a poster imo

Or simply he is a poor excuse for a movie director. I think the posters were done by same artist who did the Haute Tension and Undead posters.

Many would say the same thing about Tobe Hooper, if he hadn't crapped out one decent movie over his entire career (with a great deal of help from Henkel and Pearl, in my opinion). Yet he has become the very epitome of superior, anti-"hack" film-making in this thread, even after hits like Eaten Alive and Night Terrors.
