I was not terribly impressed by this, but I wasn't expecting all that much. I actually think I preferred the first movie. Not much in the way of scares, and they didn't do too much with the period setting. I also thought the actors in the first one did a better job- unfortunately, it's another Halloween at the theaters with no good horror movies out!

I'm going to kick off the Halloween weekend by catching an 11am showing of this tomorrow. Couple AM pumpkin beers with breakfast, catching a flick by myself....... looking forward to it. No expectations, hopefully it'll surprise me.

    I really liked it.
It had an old-school 60:s-70:s slow burn feel to it.
And the girl did a damn fine job at creeping me out :D

I liked the small 35mm touches, that only filmnerds will notice, in comparision to the "trying too hard" Grindhouse homages ;)

The young girl totally creeped me out. With that sweet innocent cute smile - Fuck that! She's not fooling anybody. :D

I thought this one was okay. A few neat scenes and a couple of scares. Maybe a little more entertaining that the first film. If you haven't seen either one it would be better to watch the sequel first. Only about 6 people in the theater with me but this is the second week of release.

So I caught an 11am showing friday..... I was one of only 3-4 people in the theater, which is always nice. I had a good time......its not the greatest but it was enjoyable enough. A slow burn of sorts but the last 15-20 minutes or so we're pretty freaky. I liked the setting in the 60s.....people weren't annoying as much back then lol but anyways, I'd recommend this if you go in with low expectations.

Also gotta mention the fact I was the only one at the consessions and I ordered a beer (10:50am) young girl behind the counter kind of paused..... "did I studder, bitch?" (in my best captain Spaulding voice). LOL.

The young actress did a good job. Usually I dislike young leads in films as I don't find them very believable.

She was the best on in the whole film. I especially like the scene when she asks the boyfriend if he knows what it's like to be strangled to death.

Thought this was great. I can't remember a sequel being as much of an improvement over original than this film was. Flanagan hasn't made a bad film Imo.

Question for you guys and gals - I have not seen the first movie - is there any reason I need to see the first one before seeing this one?

I haven't seen it since October and must have missed this thread the first time around, but from what I remember there is a teaser scene at the very end that connects it to the first film in a major way. That said, it isn't necessary to have seen the first film to enjoy the sequel.

Revisited this over the weekend on blu ray. I enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time around. Very solid acting......the set up was great for the last 20+ minutes or so. I thought there were a bunch of really creepy moments in the 3rd act. There's also a quick post credit scene with a nice little cameo. If you missed this theatrically, please do yourself a favor and check this out on blu/dvd, even if it's just a rental........ it's really enjoyable.

Not at all. It's a prequel that stands on its own, for sure. The only thing that might not make sense is the post credit scene. It ties into the the first film. You'd be polite to refer to that flick as "not good" lol aside from maybe a half way cool sequence or two, movie is the definition of forgettable. Origins on the other hand is kinda awesome. Looking forward to watching it again actually.

Nope, this can be watched as a standalone.
