I was wondering if anyone has picked up the Raro blu ray of Play Motel? I read some reviews, but it looks like the blu ray is edited, so I probably won't pick it up. I refuse to buy any blu rays that are edited, I know they probably released it softcore for various reasons, but I mean, there's no reason in 2015 to edit hardcore out of a blu ray release, amazon.com stocks lots of films with hardcore in them, and it's not like a Raro release is going to make it into a wal mart anyhow haha, so I think they only hurt themselves by releasing cut versions of a film. I am so sick of companies saying they can't find a blu ray encoder to handle hardcore material, that's such bullshit, but whatever I read that in one review for Play Motel, I say that's total bullshit, because there are porn films from the 70's and 80's being released on blu ray, so yeah not sure where these reviewers get the idea that no encoders will handle hardcore material for blu ray release. But yeah this film did have me wanting to pick it up, but why must companies contine to edit films even on blu ray releases, everything should be uncut on blu ray, or don't bother. I mean unless the film is destroyed and all that remains is poor quality elements, such as the case with Metropolis, or some film like that, but that was not the case with Play Motel.

I have it. The "hardcore" scenes are on the disc separately in the bonus features, but are of worn VHS quality.

    DVDBeaver review: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-ray_reviews_68/play_motel_blu-ray.htm

horrorlover, according the the runtime on the Raro disc it doesn't actually seem to be edited - it's listed as being 93 minutes long. I haven't seen it before or know its history but IMDb also lists the run time as only being 90 minutes uncut or 87 minutes for the "cut version" so it seems it's intact (and a few minutes longer). The DVDBeaver review mentions the "Hard Cut Scenes" are of inferior and extremely poor quality meaning they probably weren't worth cutting back into the film for HD, or were never intended to be in the film as they could have been deleted scenes (since that's even how they are referred to in the actual Special Features selection being "Cut Scenes"), or contracts stating they were not to be inserted back in. The other review you read could also have been inaccurate and assumed those were "edited out." I could also be wrong and it may be edited, but just stating observations.

ah thanks MorallySound, I have read differing reviews stating that the film was supposed to be hardcore, and others stating that the film was meant to be not hardcore and the hardcore scenes were filmed later and inserted, so I am going to pick up this blu ray I think. I should maybe not believe every review I read. I just assumed that since there was a hardcore version out there that that was the uncut version. But with some of these European films there is no definitive version as they made multiple versions for different markets, sometimes filming multiple versions at the same time. It's like with the Jess Franco releases, sometimes there is no directors cut, because his films were cut up and spliced back together for different countries releases.

I went ahead and ordered Play Motel, along with The Long Hair of Death, I've been wanting to see The Long Hair of Death for a while, so figured I'd grab Play Motel with it. I am hoping both movies turn out good, I should have them next week. I hope the blu ray quality is good, as I've read the quality of they Raro discs is not so great, but I was happy with their discs I've bought so far, but I have a 32" TV so I don't see the problems some people may see on bigger TV's maybe. All the Raro blu rays I have look great to me. I think maybe it's only on the really big 60+ inch TV's that people see some problems with badly transferred blu rays.

I bought Slaughter Hotel and was very happy with it. I ordered Werewolf Woman during the sale.
