They couldn't even get the name of the actress who played Carole Ann right so I take this with a huge grain of salt. That said, I don't think there's any way to improve on the original.

Seriously, I nearly spit my coffee. Worst written piece of news this year so far.

uhhh...Poltergeist is totally a horror movie. Sure it has that Spielberg touch to it, but it's definitely horror.

I said it's not straight up horror not that's it's not horror at all. It has that family vibe Speilburge is known for.

It looks like they just quoted Sam Rockwell as saying that. But I guess it's just as bad that they didn't correct it though.

...and Tobe Hooper was the caterer. He served some mean BBQ on the set I hear.

Poltergeist was a PG. This new Poltergeist is PG-13. With the likes of Indidious being PG-13 I'm not worried..... Yet.

Well Poltergeist would have been PG-13 as would have Gremlins and other Spielberg movies (although I know he didn't direct Poltergeist) - that is one reason Spielberg was a big pusher of the PG-13 rating as he felt some of his movies should have been put in that category had it existed at the time

I totally agree with the MPAA being very lax on Speilberg. Wasn't it Temple of Doom that garnered the first PG-13?

It was PG, but it ushered the PG-13 rating in. I saw a sneak preview of this as a kid (4th grade) and when Mola Ram did the heart-grab I was floored… I had seen much more violent stuff but it seemed more shocking in the context of an Indiana Jones movie.

My aunt walked out of Doom during that scene. She didn't expect an Indiana Jones movie to show something so graphically violent.

BTW, the Poltergeist article has since been corrected.

Doesn't look like they took too many liberties to stray from the original's storyline or sequences, but I'd give it a shot.

Hopefully this means a special edition of the original.

I doubt Warner will even care. The remake will be MGM/20th Century Fox.

Then again... Warner are the kings of endless re-releases, so they'll probably reissue it with the same transfer/encode, but add a new 10-minute Featurette. :nervous:

I'm sick of this remake and re-imagining shit from pricks with no imagination. Then to make matters worse they also try being politically correct. They start inserting token actors to claim the movie is hip and cool. :fuck:

Totally. Didn't they hype this big re-release special edition of Gremlins, then it turned out to be the exact same blu-ray disc only with a bonus disc with a 30 minute featurette on it?

As for Poltergeist, I vaguely remember hearing that the reason the original blu-ray was so skimpy is that no one involved really wants to talk about it due to Heather O'Rourke and Dominique Dunne's deaths. This is most likely just a rumor, since I believe they've done TV specials and whatnot. I remember hearing the same thing about Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Yeah that has to be a rumor. I'm sure Hooper would be down for a commentary. I don't care about a new encode, the original transfer looked very good. Maybe encode it in AVC this time around instead of VC-1. I just want some sort of special features. This movie deserves a special edition. I know Warner rarely licenses out their films but it would be cool if they could make another deal with Shout like they did with Nightbreed.
