I haven't watched many Asian Horror flix in the past (Ju On, Imprint) but this week I've been really breaking into it. This week I've watched The Eye, Audition & 3 Extremes on consecutive nights and I enjoyed each of them very much. I NEED MORE! I've read through alot of the threads here and I think I have a handle on what I should get next (tale of 2 sisters) but I'm open to more suggestions. Give them to me & thanks!

PS...Takashi Miike seems to hit hard with me so I'd like some of his better movies suggested.

ha, I was just looking at one missed call on amazon thinking it would be bad but I guess I will give it a spin. What makes Evil Dead Trap such a "must see"...I've heard this term for this movie many times.

Well, here's what we had to say on the topic:

    http://www.horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=32498

I like One Missed Call a LOT. Paradoxically, it's typical Miike, and at the same time very un-Miike. Basically, it's another "scary girl" movie ala Ring, Phone, et al. It plays by all the rules. A young girl wronged, seeking vengeance from beyond the grave, killing a chain of victims through techology (this time it's a cell phone and not a video). But Miike takes those rather hackneyed cliches, and manages to "Miike" them, suddenly making it fresh again even though we've seen it several times before.

Evil Dead Trap a "must-see"? Yes and no. It takes a straight-forward concept, then about an hour in makes a major detour to the world of "What the fuck?". Some love that detour, others think it's totally out of left field and makes no sense. So it's up to everyone to decide for himself if he likes it. Must see? Yeah, I guess. Must LOVE? Figure that out after you see it.

Uzumaki is quite original with some really disturbing imagery and bizarre deaths you don't see recycled from every other film. Plus it really fucks with your head in the very best way.

    In other words, highly recommended!

    Biozombie (kinda goofy but fun)

A Tale Of Two Sisters --I know you already mentioned it but it's really worth seeing

Although not horror (except for the horrific violence at times) I highly recommend the Lone Wolf and Cub series of films if you're interested in Asian films in general. Truly amazing.

Well the way I watch Japanese films, it is.

While a few of his films have been mentioned here, I love Shinya Tsukamato. He's easily my favorite Japanese director and I have yet to see a film of his that I didn't like. Both Tetsuo films and Gemini are high on my list.

Marebito is another little unsung gem. It stars Tsukamato and was directed by the guy that made Ju-on as a small project in between big budget films.

Evil Dead Trap is tough to recommend. It is beautifully shot in an Argento-esque style, but there is a mean-spirited quality to it that turns me off a bit. But the little left turn into bat-shit-crazy that was mentioned elsewhere is pretty effective.

well it's been almost a year since i started this thread and I finally got around to watching A Tale of Two Sisters last night. Man, what a fantastic film. thought I should see it before The Univited hit the theatres. I'm sure like most of these the hollywood version will not stand up to the original.
