I rather liked it. It is not as uneventful as House of Death or The Dorm that Dripped Blood, nor as clumsily made as The Prey or The Forest (the former of which has some nice touches and an instance of absolutely terrible editing).

The cast is likable, and the characters are MUCH better defined than those in The Dorm that Dripped Blood, or, even worse, House of Death (which I saw last night, and I couldn't figure out who was dating who, nor even who the killer was).

Final Exam also builds some suspense in its final chase, which has a couple of tightly composed shots. It could have used a more iconic killer, or a killer with some background, but there is something realistic about him.

I guess I wíll have to wait a few months and rewatch to see if Final Exam is a true favourite or a pleasant but passing aquaintance.

It's been a while since I've watched it, but I enjoyed it. However, I just kind of like the atmosphere of early 80's slashers anyway. What I remember liking about Final Exam was that the killer is just some guy. He doesn't have a costume or a gimmick. He's just really strong and pissed off. Also, two scenes. The one where the girl ostensibly locks the killer in the freezer and moments later he bursts out of an adjacent door, and the sequence where he's shot at with an arrow, catches the arrow in mid air, briskly walks down a flight of stairs and impales his assailant with it. Wow, that was a really, really good scene. I’m glad this is on DVD now. I hope New Years Evil comes out soon, I’d like to revisit it too.

Well, the title of the thread says to post here if you love Final Exam. I'll post anyway .... this movie just sucks hard. To quote Beavis "This sucks more than anything else that has ever sucked before"

Watching paint dry is exciting by comparison.

    It blows...all other slashers away!!!

Okay, not quite, but it's at least near the top of the pack once you take out the top tier classics like Halloween, Madman, Friday the 13th Part II, etc.

Let's put it this way...Joel S. Rice would make an even better president than Barack Obama.

FINAL EXAM is good times to me. I saw it one hot summer eve in '81 - it was the first year I was allowed to see R-rated movies at the theater (accompanied, of course - I had just turned 11).
For the strangest reason, the school used in the film got me all excited about going back to school...and this is after a pretty hellish school year already ended.
I wish we had the internet when I started university because not only did I want to actually attend the school(s) used in the film, turns out they actually offer the programs I was interested in studying.
Anyway - the film is well-made and it got the slasher formula down. I don't group all 80's slashers together at all. I mean, there is/was a slasher hierarchy. FINAL EXAM seemed to fall in the middle for me. It was good, but lacked the shock effects of FRIDAY THE 13TH and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME to really make it stand out. I was hearing a few complaints of that sort as we left the theater, "...they didn't SHOW anything!"
I'm so glad it's on DVD now. I have a few one sheet posters. My favorite art is the one used for a newspaper ad and the LP cover - the bloody knife "bookmark" in the Psychology book. ;)

I thought it was pretty good, but nothing special. Great characters, but the kills were lacking. The chase scene at the end was pretty good though. It's almost more of a fun 80s teen comedy then a slasher, as the slashing is the weakest part of the whole movie. They should have just made a frat comedy with lots more of Wildman and it would have been a lot better in my opinion!

    Oh Stop! :D

I've always wanted to see this film but that is one of the downsides of living in the U.K.
NO R2 RELEASE FOR FINAL EXAM! GRRRRRR

I'd love to see this film :D

Why aren't you region free? I live in Denmark, and getting a region free player is as easy as scratching your *rse. ;)

No way am I going to miss out on great horror because of regional coding!
