Rewatched it again this past July...

Changing my 7 to a 5. And would like to take this opportunity to withdraw all analytical observations made years ago. With better death scenes, it would probably work as a slasher film but I do think Freddy is great here and the camerawork still and the effects still. And Kim Myers is wonderful. And Clu Gulager is giving this his all. And I can't fault Patton at all.

But back in the 90's when I first saw this, I thought it was lacking real subtext. Instead it mostly amounts to flirting. Which, given how much real life pain it seems Patton is going through, is unfair. Maybe it was the times, I dunno. But this needed to find a genuinely deeper well to pump from.

Too pedestrian of a horror fantasy thriller. I was so let down by this film when I saw it opening weekend - there were no action chase scenes like the first film, no trippy synth. soundtrack and no fantasy nightmare scenes with any imagination. It just felt so Made-for-TV. That is sad because I think the core cast especially Kim Myers and Mark Patton were terrific.

I thought the opening bus ride into the desert was realized pretty well.

Yes, but that was pretty much it for the film. Nothing had Wes Craven's intensity and imagination. I will say that bus sequence fits well with the imagery from the 3rd and 4th films.

Oh god, yes. That's bothered me since the day I first saw this movie. It is practically a regression for the series to not have a dynamic score somehow- even if the original Nightmare isn't in the same league as the score for Tenebre or, frankly, Halloween II and III.
