Rewatched it again this past July... Changing my 7 to a 5. And would like to take this opportunity to withdraw all analytical observations made years ago. With better death scenes, it would probably work as a slasher film but I do think Freddy is great here and the camerawork still and the effects still. And Kim Myers is wonderful. And Clu Gulager is giving this his all. And I can't fault Patton at all. But back in the 90's when I first saw this, I thought it was lacking real subtext. Instead it mostly amounts to flirting. Which, given how much real life pain it seems Patton is going through, is unfair. Maybe it was the times, I dunno. But this needed to find a genuinely deeper well to pump from.
