I went 6.5. It's good, but not really a favorite of mine. The second film is a good horror/comedy. The third film is quite bad, imo.

I love the atmosphere in this film and just the feeling of isolation. 8.5 for me.

One of my favorite all time movies. I give it a 10! I also give a 10 for Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, and Army Of Darkness. This is my favorite trilogy. I am a huge Bruce Campbell, and Sam Raimi fan.

This is a horror classic. Cheesy, Low Budget and best of all Bruce Campbell. Whats not to love about it? 10 points all the way.

10 all the way, baby! I love the first one. ED2 is good too. So is AOD but I always like the grittiness(?) and low budget flair of the first EVIL DEAD best.

Gave it an 8. To think that a bunch of young men - kids really - could go out and accomplish what they did with Evil Dead is truely awesome. And it set the precedent for two more awesome movies as Evil Dead 2 - Dead by Dawn, and Army of Darkness...and ofcourse talk of another one on the horizon.

I gave this one an 8. Even though its one of my favorites, there is some bad editing here.

This is a tough one. I have always liked the movie, but for someone reason the remake sits better with me. And like Dwatts... the 3rd was just a waste of time, money and film. A strong 7 becuase it scarred my kids.

The splatter moments are appropriately over the top, and the atmosphere is very effective, but there are some narrative problems that stand out on repeated viewings, like the uneasy mixture of the comedic moments (a bit understated) and the horror scenes (on the other end of the spectrum). Raimi would do much better for the sequel. 8/10

  18. i gave it 8.5 becuase as far as horror films go id say its worth an 8, and as far as horror/comedies go its a 9, you do the math :D

Maybe i am alone on this, but i see very little comedy in the first Evil Dead film. I truly believe that Raimi and the boys set out to make a serious horror picture. The end result though was a very cheesy, low budget film. I can see way people would laugh at it, but i don't think it was intended that way.

I totaly agree...I see no comedy at all in the first Evil Dead flick. It's my absolute favorite horror movie of all time. I've had the extreme pleasure of working with Bruce Campbell in the past and am good friends with Tom Sullivan (SFX Artist for ED) and it irks the hell out of me when they talk to me about ED being so funny.

I saw that flick for the first time when I was like 10 yrs old or so and it left such a distinct mark on me. Even today when I watch it, I totally agree with Steven King when he said it was a grueling film.
