    1. Halloween
    2. Halloween II
    3. Halloween 4
    4. Halloween H20
    5. Halloween III
    6. Halloween 5
    7: Halloween: Resurrection
    8. Halloween 6

Halloween is easily my favorite movie - regardless of genre - of all time. Part II continues the same night and gets a lot of the details right. Part 4 represented years of waiting for a sequel. Resurrection was terrible but Halloween 6 was HORRIBLE. I don't support the producer's cut either - because what I saw in the the theater WAS the movie... some reassembled workprint that exists only in bootlegs doesn't exist "in canon" for me.

It doesn't matter either way, because the storylines for parts 4-6 were scrapped for Halloween H20 and Resurrection. So much for "canon".

    That's a good point.

Though I know when H20 was gearing up for release the filmmakers made it sound like 4-6 "might have happened". The truth is that most franchises run out of steam by the second sequel (i.e. part 3). In this case Halloween 1& 2 are treasured movie-going experiences whereas the rest are simple but effective cash-ins on a fan's (me) love of the original. I mean, what does Hellraiser: Hellseeker have to do with the original film - or Howling New Moon Rising to the original Howling? Nothing. I think my annoyance at the Part 6 Producer's cut has more to do with a general annoyance about alternate cuts for DVD than being "in canon"...

In order for both plotlines to work Laurie Strode would have to be a bigamist and had two families in two different towns. According to HALLOWEEN 4, Jamie Lloyd became an orphan when both of her parents died two years earlier (which would make it in 1986). In HALLOWEEN H20, she supposedly faked her death in a car crash, changed her name and had a kid. Since her son (played by Josh Hartnett) was supposed to be 17 years old in the movie (year is 1998) that would mean he was born in 1981. Both plotlines could have conceivably worked together, but the fact that H20 takes place exactly 20 years after "The Night HE Came Home" nips it in the bud. Josh Hartnett's character would have to be 10 years old to work. Not only that, it would also make Laurie Strode a murderer because she would have had to kill her own husband in the car accident to fake her own death.

I had never done the math but ...wow! I guess I feel that H20 didn't make a point of destroying the timelines of Parts 4, 5 (and I guess 6). It just kind of ignored them. I really like Part 4 and if you don't think about it to much it still works. At least it is not like the Friday the 13th series where the timeline makes no sense at all...

I'm not sure if I've even seen all the Halloween movies. I loved the first one, the second was pretty good, H2O I don't remember enjoying, Resurrection I actually had fun watching, and there were a couple of others that I've seen that weren't that great...one with Paul Rudd in it.....oh well, I was always more of a Friday the 13Th fan.

Revised in 2007 for Rob Zombie's remake.

    Two Amazing Films
    Halloween
    Halloween II

    Two Interesting Films
Halloween III: Season of the Witch
    Halloween (2007)

    Two Decent Slashers
Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers
Halloween V: The Revenge of Michael Myers

I still haven't seen the Producer's cut of VI. The rest are okay if you've got nothing better to do, but they're the only ones I don't own...and have no plans to.

I agree. The first film will always be the greatest in my eyes. I've always loved part 3, even though just about everyone trashes it. Part one and three are the two I watch the most. I love the Silver Shamrock factory and the entire crazy plot with the Halloween masks and Stonehenge. Most of all, it's one of the few times Tom Atkins has the lead role. I think this is one of his most kick ass roles and he has some of his best dialogue ever! Great soundtrack too in part 3.
