A must-have, hell, even if you're NOT a Hammer fan!

They all have self contained storylines, although most generally have a short synopsis/resurrection type sequence at the beginning of each film. Before you order, however, be aware that Warner Brothers have plans to re-release HORROR OF DRACULA at some point with recently restored footage and in a corrected aspect ratio. (The prior release had a problem with not having enough head room)

Actually I own this one. Someone from here recommended me this last year and I picked it up, but it has been sitting in my large to watch pile. Guess I'm going to have to throw it in tonight, and check it out!

Anyone word when this re-release may come out, or if they are going to re-release the whole box set?

Just watched Frankenstein Created Woman for the first time since I was like 7 - love it! The effects are a bit crude, and some of the charatcers are kinda silly, but it really is a fun watch and brought back some great memories. You might even say this was the first horror movie I ever watched. Back where it all began for me

Watched Kronos the other day and thought it was really good. Loved the different myths and takes on the vampire lore, and all the weapons/ gadgets he used. I also was quite fond of the style of it all. Like Amicus films, I now have the sudden urge to check out everything else this company has done.

    I recently picked this up:

I'm on the forth film, "Plague of the Zombies" and it's kick ass so far. If you can get your hands on a region free dvd player or the keycode to unlock the region setting on you dvd player, I'd really recommend this set. 20 or so films for about $70 USD.

EDIT: I noticed this set contains most of the Hammer releases that are unavailable in NA for whatever reason.

I would recommend The Devil Rides Out.

This is a great thread, by the way. It's made me realize how many Hammer films I haven't seen yet. And, the money I haven't spent yet, too.:nervous:

I'm looking to get into Hammer as well and this thread has been a great help. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

  11. I'll second that, it's a great adaption of a great novel.

I'd also recommend The Curse Of The Werewolf, Twins Of Evil and Vampire Circus. It's pretty hard to go wrong with Hammer. Even films like Dracula AD 1972, Satanic Rites Of Dracula and Lust For A Vampire are enjoyable to watch.

Actually, the Dracula films should be watched in order as how one ends plays into the plotline in the follow up.

If you get the Hammer set, do yourself a favor and watch "Night Creatures" (AKA: "Captain Clegg") Its a great atmospheric skulldugery pirate film that is severely under rated!!

looks like a neat set indeed. But I read they tampered a little with some of the aspect ratios. Is this true? Anything shocking? I think about buying the set some time soon. Where to buy this the cheapest?

The new ICONS OF HORROR set features THE GORGON,a nicely atmospheric one with a rare Christopher Lee good guy role.Set also includes SCREAM OF FEAR (aka TASTE OF FEAR),one of Hammer's best liked thrillers.

Let me put out another vote for Vampire Circus. Extremely entertaining. Lynne Frederick is freakin' adorable. You'll see why the industry (Hollywood, British film, Playboy) went nuts over her at the time. She would go on to marry Peter Sellers. The cocaine and so forth got to her though and she died youngish and in bad shape sorry to say.
