When will we see The Mutilator on dvd?!?! Someone has to have a print out there that isnt vhs.Is there a web site that list's who owns the rights to movies? Sean
I own the laserdisc and I've transferred it to DVD, however the quality is still not good. The Vestron laserdiscs came from video masters so they were only superior to VHS in apparent resolution and durability/stability. Unfortunate, when I have so many other lasers that nearly equal (or occasionally exceed) their DVD counterparts and from which a decent DVD could be authored. Hopefully, quality source elements will eventually be located.
Found this on youtube a while back, someone may have posted it already. Interview with Buddy Cooper That is an interview with director Buddy Cooper, where he shows a lot of the props and items he still has from The Mutilator. About 4:35 into the video, you see he still has several of the prints of the film, including trailers and TV spots. Who knows the condition they are in, but it is worth knowing that they are out there.
has anyone else tried contacting buddy cooper, every time i see a new reply to this thread i think its getting released sean
I have seen you post this a couple times. Where do you get this info? Bill from 2009(Code Red updates thread)- "I didnt say I lost the rights, the problem is there is no neg elements left, nor 35mm. All they have is a 3/4 inch tape! Which will look same as the dark Vestron video. We are seeking a uncut 35mm print, and still looking!" In all seriousness, why is that so hard for you to believe? Seems like a legitimate reason to me.
Same thing here. That is the vaguest posting in the history of retroslashers. One of these days someone needs to do an expose on the behind the scenes story on this films road to dvd.
I spoke to someone that interviewed Buddy Cooper at his house like a year and a half ago. He told me that there was a legality battle going on over the distribution rights between Buddy and Code Red and it was most likely going to court. If you look in earlier posts (maybe the Code Red Updates thread) Bill states that he has a legal contract to the rights of the Mutilator and really didn't give us any other info when we asked him what the deal with this new information I had heard. So, based on that evidence I think it's safe to say some things are still trying to be ironed out. Hopefully it ends in our favor.
Oh, ok. I am glad to have that finally clarified. Thanks for the info. I really enjoyed that youtube interview with Buddy. Good stuff.
Yeah, based on those YouTube videos I would say Buddy has all the elements needed to have a nice DVD release I wonder if Buddy pulled his prints from Code Red, but Code Red said we still have the rights to distribute hence why they are looking for other resources.
I'm just glad that there is still hope. This one, Nightmare, Spasms, and Ghostkeeper are my personal BIG 4 of anticipated Code Red titles. Well, Night Of The Demon and Butcher Baker also, so let's say BIG 6.
Code Red claimed that they would not release the film because all that existed was footage on tape? Why do I find that extremely hard to believe. There's no 35mm print in existence? Bullshit. ~Matt
Everytime I see an update here about Mutilator, I'm hoping for the best. Each time I'm disapointed. I can't wait for Mutilator to be released.
Well, according to DVDAF Lion's Gate now has the rights to The Mutilator. I do not know how reliable that site is; I just started checking that site recently. If true, I find it unfortunate. I'm sure Code Red would have done the film justice.
I'd take that Lionsgate info on DVDAF with a grain of salt. For starters, anybody can add/update information on the site (like IMDb), and I have yet to see any other source indicating LG has any involvement with The Mutilator being released on DVD whatsoever.
Bill had the following to say over @ thelatarniaforums "dvdaf, You can login and place DAY THE CLOWN CRIED for Program Power dvd and it'll show up. But it'll be intresting how this will turn out for LG " This leads me to believe that Bill no longer has the right cause if he did he would say so. Plus he doesn't seem surprised at all that LG may have Mutilator.
