Mine arrived as well. I remember when the film came out back in the 80's. At the time Tower Records here in San Diego had an import movie section. They got a copy of the original Japanese with English subtitles and my roommate and I rented it. It was a real treat to see the Japanese version instead of the Americanized release. I still enjoy listening to the Goodbye Godzilla song.

Wow. I knew this would bring some nostalgic memories but didn't expect flashbacks of early '00s VCD's and bootleg DVD's. Yikes.

I haven't watched the subbed version, but watched the dub last night. No subtitles for that version.

I was unimpressed with the video quality. Colors were flat, and it had an overall greenish tinge that made the overall picture murky (I've noticed this with some other Japanese discs, such as the Uzumaki DVD).

Too bad the US version was not included as I would have liked to compare. I really liked the intro on the boat and the scenes with Godzilla in them, but could not stand the political stuff which just seemed heavy handed and embarrassing. I laughed out loud when the PM seemingly shed a single tear for Godzilla at the end.

I know this is a thing with Japanese movies/shows, but it annoyed me to no end that they felt the need to throw up text on the screen when introducing new characters, places, and even devices. There are way better ways to do this. I mean, when they first introduce the PM of Japan, he gets his name and position throw up on the screen and then literally the next piece of dialog is a guy saying "MR PRIME MINISTER...blah blah blah."
