I rewatched my DVD of this film the other night. The film is a very bizarre parody/slasher hybrid, and as far as I'm concerned, its loads of fun. It utilizes the movie within a movie plot pretty well, and years before Scream 3 did it, and the film also contains some of the in-a-horror-film injokes that the original Scream "supposedly" made original. It continuously switches from the real storyline to movie scenes and back, sometimes confusingly so, but if you pay close enough attention, you'll be able to tell what's what. Hell, they even throw a far out dream sequence or two into the mix.

The film has a young George Clooney playing an actor. Its pretty funny watching him in this film's early moments. He hasn't changed that much, haha. It also has Maureen McCormack in an oddball role as a cop. Of course, the characters in the film range from odd to horny to just plain bizarre. I thought the guy playing the science teacher was pretty funny, as was the "janitor" who wanted to do porns.

There are some nice gore effects throughout the film. There are some purposely cheesy ones as well. One beheading in particular is pretty dumb, but of course, it was so obviously meant to be.

The ending is where it gets truly nutty. I don't know what they were thinking when they came up with the ending, but its quite odd to say the least.

Anyways, I really enjoy this flick, though I know several people dislike it, and the trailer is pretty cool too.

I need to rewatch this someday. Haven't seen it in ages, can't recall if I enjoyed it at all.

I picked up the DVD not too long after it's release and I gotta say I was very disappointed. I no longer own it as I have traded it away. Glad that some can find enjoyment in it though.

We just watched this film last night and really enjoyed it. It was a load of fun though confusing as hell at points. That aforementioned beheading we had to watch 4 times over because of how hilarious it was. I think I might actually pick this disc up if I can find it cheap enough.

I am quite the fan of this one!
Sure it's sorta confusing, but it features some ok acting, good gore (the heart surgery on the teacher), a nasty edge (that scene where the girl is nearly raped while on a date), and it is actually pretty creepy (especially that wonderful dream sequance). The ending is slightly odd, but helps make the movie memorable.
I too borught the DVD when it was first released, IMO it's one of the better late 80's slashers!

I just saw this film at my local Best Buy for $5. I was going to buy it, but ended up putting it back and getting something else instead. I'll likely go back and buy it this week sometime because it is do cheap. Lately I have been finding all sorts of horror films very cheap at Best Buy. Like I needed any further incentive to shop there.

  7. My favourite part of this film is the cop who keeps getting undressed a little bit more each time she checks out the murder scene.

I like this movie. It was fun and I was never quite sure where it was heading. Honestly I didn't like the ending. I wanted people to actually die in this film. I did enjoy many things about this movie though

    1. George Clooney dies
    2. the actress who played Marcia Brady was really hot as the cop who's shirt opened up a little during each scene
    3. the interesting characters
    4. the movie within a movie feel of it

Damn, the motherfucker was $5.99 at BB here, so I grabbed it today!
Doesn't sound like I've seen it before, looking forward to checking out probably tomorrow.

  10. I loved these flicks for what it is... a cheap slasher flick which is a great thing IMO

I don't know if I got my hopes up too high or what, but this movie didn't do much for me. The gore was non-existant, the gratuitous nudity was good, and there were a few laughs along the way. The end was just horrid and pretty stupid IMO.
I might give it another spin, or it might end up on a "for trade" list soon, not sure yet.

I hated this movie. It's not the worst I've ever seen, and it was a little bit fun for a while, but then at the end it made no sense.

My expectations for this were a little low when i started it this morning. as it began, i wasn't too impressed - there didn't seem to be any structure or flow, with each scene feeling more like part of a skit show, rather than a continuous story. it jumps around in time, and then also between movie and movie-within-a-movie. its a little hard to follow. but, as it went on, i started to enjoy it. the jokes weren't really funny, and it certainly wasn't scary, and since the plot is so disjointed, you can't really be engaged by the mystery of it, but it still ended up being weirdly entertaining. the cast just seemed so earnest in everything they did. by the time it got to the conclusion, when the cop, after
ripping the black janitors mask off to reveal the white principal, cries out "Kastleman, you HONKEY!"
I was sold! That line, and Marcia Brady, made the movie for me. It's really not that bad. I think that if those who hated it so much were to give it another shot, knowing exactly what they were getting into, they might find something to enjoy in it.

I saw this for the first time a few months back and I can't say I enjoyed it. There are too many gaps, chasms if you will, in logic to take it in for any reason other than the gore- which I don't recall being particularly impressive. Anyway, I've almost blocked it from memory so I can't say too much more about it other than this: I may not have hated it, but I was surely glad when the credits rolled.

Same thing with me. It has an awful first half hour or so. But the stranger it gets, the better it gets.

Only people who were not genre aficionados ever claimed anything like that.

Just watched this tonight after picking it up at the FYE in upstate NY, still can't believe this film eluded me for all these years-thought I'd seen everything eighties in this vein.
It was weird and confusing in parts and the ending did kinda suck, however I thought that overall it was enjoyable and pretty effective as a satire of all those eighties slasher stereotypes.
I definitely see this as an influence on the Scream franchise, it did manage to keep my interest throughout and I would re-watch this.
