I have the Joy Sales re-release (it's actually the third release I bought for this film :p), but I don't own the Media Blasters release, so I can't help you with a comparison.
    It looks nice though.

This just became available on Netflix streaming so if you haven't seen it yet give it a viewing.

Would y'all believe I just got around to seeing this for the first time last night? Wow, what a crazy-ass flick! It's just one of those things that's managed to slip under my radar. I believe it was shown on Turner Classic Movies a year ago, and still didn't see it. It was only a poke around the bargain DVD bin while waiting in line at a used record store that I saw it for $1.99 and grabbed it.

Nothing more to add that hasn't already been said (and it turns out, I already own/have seen most of the films Funktion mentioned), just a great blend of over-the-top gore and surprisingly good kung-fu scenes. I do love that late 80s-early 90s era of Hong Kong cinema. Probably right up there with 70s era gritty movies (American and Italian, mostly) as my favorite period of filmmaking.

For those of you that haven't seen this film the blu-ray is only $13.25 on Amazon now. Well worth picking up.

I just heard about it last week. From what I've read it's much better than any previous Blu-ray, although in scenes with a lot of movement like when there's rain there's some noticeable DNR. There may be some sound sync issues in parts too. However I doubt anyone's going to revisit this title any time soon... Although whenever I say that someone always does. :D

I have the Hong Kong Legends R2 release that looks great, though sometimes the Media Blasters crappy transfer really adds to the cheesy experience of it all (much like how I prefer to watch the dubbed version). I haven't bothered with any Blu-Ray releases for that reason as well.

I also discovered this after hunting down "what is that clip from The Daily Show?" and bought a VHS at Electronics Boutique of all places while in high school (the late 90's). It has been one I always recommend to new people that are into crazy/cheesy/gory movies that enjoy a good laugh.

So if anyone was still wondering whether to buy the UK blu-ray I give it a huge recommendation. The picture quality was better than I was expecting. It's been about 15 years since I last saw this film and I really enjoyed watching it again. The gore effects are juicy and plentiful and while several of them look fake that just kind of adds to the overall tone/atmosphere of the film. It's based on a comic and that really is how the film feels. The blu-ray is region B locked so you need an all region player. There is a nice color booklet inside with several pictures. Extras include commentary (I didn't listen to it), a fairly long interview with Fan Siu Wong, and trailers. There is also a DVD included in this set.

Saw it for the first time during one of the Letterboxd Movie Nights screenings a couple months ago.

Way too bro-gore for me. (Though it was a better prison film than The Shawshank Redemption.)
