Wow. You guys are slipping. Was sure I'd see a thread on this by now. https://www.avclub.com/r-i-p-harry-dean-stanton-1817163647 Harry Dean Stanton, a long time favorite character actor died at 91 today. Horror fans know him from his roles in Alien and Christine, although to me he'll always be "Repo Man's always intense" Bud from Alex Cox's cult classic. I also remember seeing him play live with his blues band, and I can place the date from either 1995 or 1996 (because he played "You Never Can Tell" which I'd recognized from Pulp Fiction, and I lamented that I forgot to bring my original Repo Man poster for him to sign...starting in 1997 I started putting all my posters in permanent frames, thus it had to be between those two events that I saw him. Damn I have a funny way of placing events in my timeline). It was great to see him in person, but my friends and I were all "Damn, did he just crawl out of the grave or what?" He looked really frail even then, and that was 20 years ago. So I'm glad we still got great performances out of him in that time, all the way up till the Twin Peaks reboot this year. He'll be missed.
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Criterion has a nice right up: https://www.criterion.com/current/posts/4929-the-daily-harry-dean-stanton-1926-2017 The greatest even in the little bit parts he'd have he'd steal the show. It's good that he got to finish out Twin Peaks. Now let's all pour one out for Harry Dean!
From big roles in films to cameo parts, Harry Dean Stanton was nearly always a memorable screen presence. Really loved him in Repo Man, Escape from New York, Wild at Heart, & countless other roles. Like Lemmy from Motorhead, I thought he was going to live forever. So glad he was part of the latest Twin Peaks season. Rest in peace, Sir.
