Looking forward to upgrading my Salem's Lot DVD (which seems like I've had forever). The Hooper commentary is a nice surprise.:D

That store isn't around these parts. I wish though.

Just put it in and gave it a look-see. Looks great! Unfortunately I can confirm that the shotgun in mouth is still MIA.

There are some differences between this release and the old DVD. For instance, at the end of the scene where Danny Glick gets visited by his brother in his hospital room, the DVD had a cross fade into the next scene with Straker exiting the Marsten House. The blu-ray doesn't have the cross fade, so it is indeed a truly new master. I can't wait to dig into this release to see what other differences there are. :)

Glad I could be of help. I always thought that the cross fades were an odd stylistic choice, and it has been so long since I've seen the original mini series that I couldn't remember if they were meant to be there all along or introduced to cover up an obvious fade to a commercial break. The way it is presented now flows better, imo.

Went on my journey to Best Buy today to get this and it wasn't stocked. Typical. They lost a shit ton of my business with their stocking practices. Did find The Re-Animator in a bin on Blu for $5.99 so it wasn't a total loss. Have to fins Salem's Lot elsewhere.

Just finished watching and I have to say.... Bravo. Just visually stunning as far as restorations go and you just cannot appreciate the level of cleanup they did until you compare them back to back. I didn't have all that many complaints about the dvd because it was completely watchable. It is only with hindsight that the flaws of the old release become immediately obvious. And it is kind of funny, but I had never noticed exactly how much TCM influenced the decor of the Marsten House until now with the seriously overdoing of the taxidermy and animal horns. I've also missed up to this point the almost in-joke of how the door of the Jeep never wants to shut. Guess it is because I am paying more attention tonight.

    Well worth the $8!

super excited to watch this again. I think I saw it once, when I was about 12. I don't remember a thing about it. This'll be the first time owning it. Once I've watched it, I'll probably try to locate a copy of Return to Salem's Lot and the Rob Lowe remake.

Thanks Maybrick for the solid heads up.
I was on the fence about plunking down for this blu-ray, glad I did, I think I never enjoyed the film more.
It was a first time watch for my wife and she loved it as well.
I think that the case could be made that in a traditional sense this could be Hooper's finest work.
I love Texas Chainsaw as much as the next genre fan, but Salem's Lot is just amazing gothic horror and kept us intrigued for the full three hours.
    Great blu-ray presentation as well.

    I'm glad you enjoyed.

I've once heard a rumor that this miniseries was a potential tv pilot. It's an interesting idea that I think could work today, but back in 1980 I could easily see it devolve into the "go to a new town every week and save people" formula that was standard for every genre show of the era, from The Incredible Hulk to Night Rider, to the A-Team. Just as well that it never came to pass.

Warner really screwed up the distribution with these 3 King Blu-rays. They've been difficult to find from day one.

Barnes & Noble cancelled my Salem's Lot pre-order as "Cannot Be Filled", so that's that. If there was a Bull Moose store here, I'd grab one there.

At least IT arrived the other day, and I grabbed Cat's Eye in a local store.

I used standard shipping and got the Salem's Lot Blu-Ray the day after I ordered it from amazon.ca.
No stores in my area have 'Salem's Lot' though which is kind of peculiar.

I ordered from them too and it took forever to ship. It should be in my mail box tomorrow though.
