The tent scene and the house scene at the end of BWP creeped the hell outta me the first time I saw it. There were several scenes in Ju-On: The Grudge that creeped me out more though.....

Some great choices and hard to choose but I had to go with the scene from Open Water. Sharks and oceans are just too scary. Too bad the rip off of the scene in Black Water didn't work as well.

Also love the scene when they're just floating there and the camera is at water level, everything looking calm....then the water laps over the camera for a moment and you see the sharks swimming around under them....that scene right there perfectly shows why this movie freaks me out. Not knowing what's under you.

Went with Session 9 (2001) "Going back for coins"

Filmed perfectly. You felt like you were right there with him. No music either to boost the scene, just plain fear instead. He was all just so happy with his mind elsewhere thinking of riches and then boom his whole demeanor changed to "what the hell was that?" RUN!!!

Also the scene with the generator stopping, & the lights going out in a row in the tunnel.

i really like a lot of those. i actually thought the scene in 'the ring' was scarier than in the original. also several of the 'black stain' scenes in 'kairo' were creepy as hell. i picked the scene from 'the eye.' i dont know why, i guess it was just unexpected.

The Ring fucked me up for a few days. I had to keep my lights on at night while sleeping for a bit.

Wow - great list! It's really hard to choose just one. I went with Ringu, only because that scene really unsettled me - it was scary, original, and unexpected.

I could have just as easily gone with Session 9 or Blair Witch Project too, with the Devil's Backbone, Inside, and Haute Tension not too far behind.

The "house in the woods" scene from BWP was truly unexpected and deeply unsettling (having seen an early preview of the movie before all the hype).

It isn't on the list, but the last time I actually "jumped" in the theater (possible spoiler): When that pole came flying through the window during a dream sequence in "The Descent." It was a cheap scare... but it got me!

As much as I hate to admit it, that TV scene in the Ring (I haven't seen the original, just the US version) was actually scary. I hate the movie as a whole, but that scene got me and got me good.
The Descent was the scariest film overall, but it was a combination of things that made that scary, not a lone jump scare (I know my girl would vote for that, she still jumps afetr seeing it 5+ times).
I'm tempted to vote for Open Water. I thought this was a snoozefest the first time, but repeat viewings have made me like the flick. Like someone else said, when that camera dips and the sharks are there, that is some freaky shit!

From this list, Session 9, Blair Witch, Haute Tension, and Rec definately lead the pack for SCARIEST films. Session 9 was my #1. There are a few others not on this list that would be contenders tho.

Other: The Hills Have Eyes remake, the rape scene. Rape shots in general fuck me up, but I just rewatched this the other night and that scene was intense in an Irreversible sort of way.

I'm the same, rape scenes put me off stuff, I can happily watch someone in a sleeping bag get smashed into a tree but rape stuff just creeps me out totally.

I remember seeing this in the theatre, weeks after it was released. It was a full house and during this scene the crowd went positively wild with terror. It was one of the most remarkable audience reactions I've seen.

The TV scene in the original Ring. It was a creepy, moody slow burner then WHAM... she came through the TV set and the way she moved her fingers and arms... that hair that seemed to go for on forever and the fact that it looked totally real.

That fucking scared the shit out of me.

Other - INLAND EMPIRE - Theater scene. Probably the only time I've watched a movie and had not the slightest possible idea what was going to happen or when. I didn't even have a concept of what the scene was, how long it'd be or that it would really even "end." Very unnerving and rather stressful.

I have to laugh at all the BWP votes. The only emotion that ending got from me was, "Glad that crap is finally over." ;)
