Death Ship on blu-ray November 6. 2012 from Scorpion Releasing.
Up for pre-order at DDD...
Thanks for the heads up!
Scorpion Releasing's maiden voyage on the hi-def seas is that old video store standby, Alvin Rakoff's DEATH SHIP (1980)! George Kennedy is a retiring boat captain out for one last trip with his replacement and family. Apparently it was one tour too many, as they're crashed into by a mysterious freighter that lures them aboard, only to reveal itself as something more than readily apparent -- this titular vessel is a Nazi prison ship that's been roaming the oceans for victims since the end of the war, and it just found its latest crop. Scripted by exploitation mainstay Jack Hill, this has been labeled by many fans as "THE SHINING on a Boat," which isn't far from the truth. Scorpion give us a new HD transfer, featurette, isolated score and more, which should give this atmospheric outing the reputation boost it deserves.
Just a shame Death Ship isn't coming out in October. It's one of my faves to watch during the Halloween season. Just have to make due with my DVD copy until I can get it in HD.
Really can't wait for Day of the Animals and Grizzly too!!
Anybody heard any news on Day Of The Animals. Cant wait to see a good transfer of this as my Shriek Show DVD is looking very tired now.
Scorpion announced a delay on DotA; I think due to audio remastering. There was comfirmation of an isolated score.
They also announced a number of additional upcoming blu-rays:
• Tower of Evil
• The Monster Club
• The Way of the World
• Human Experiments
• Day of the Animals
• Silent Scream
• The Unseen
Grizzly and Tower of Evil will also be on my wishlist. I just hope Scorpion keep things region free like they did with Deathship.
I'm sure it will depend on the licensing contracts, just like their DVD releases. Most are region-free, but some are locked.
So I can give up trawling ebay for it then??? There is one currently up for BIN on ebay @ $369 (plus an offensive $17 for international postage). At that price you can keep it.
$17!! Where is it shipping from? Suppose at that price it would be insured postage but who in their right mind would pay that for it in the first place?
No complaints, but "The Unseen" was Code Red. Why is Scorpion releasing the blu? BTW, you can get the DVD for about $45 at amazon.com marketplace. Saw another one on ebay for that price. I'd just wait for the blu but it's still cheaper than some other OOP Code Red titles.
Cool, Looking forward to "The Unseen" on Blu-Ray
Hope Scorpion releases more stuff from the OOP Code Red library on Blu-Ray.
Scorpion Releasing is an offshoot from Code Red; brothers that previously shared the Code Red banner separated with one staying Code Red and the other becoming Scorpion Releasing. The brothers also previously worked with Media Blasters / Shriek Show before going it alone. This explains a lot of overlap between titles across these three banners and Code Red's increased instability in recent years.
A blu of Madman would be much welcomed.
I just bought a copy of The Unseen a few minutes ago on eBay, got it for 46 Aussie bucks. A bit rich, but I like the flick and it's hard to come by. If you searched for The Unseen it didn't come up for some reason, but if you searched the words Code Red DVD then it did. eBay search engine is weird sometimes.
I wish they would step it up.
The US. That is "flat rate" express mail. It would be interesting to see if it actually arrived like that though and wasn't just in a $2 mailer. Why when you sell that kind of media would you opt for such an expensive option?
One Scorpion title I'd love to get on Blu is MORTUARY but I was one of only about 6 people who bought this on DVD so it is unlikely to hit the format. I also wouldn't mind if THE POWER hits the format but, again, very few folks actually buy these movies. I guess I should be glad they're coming out at all.
