Has anyone seen this old Shaw Bros horror flick??
Holy crap... such a cool flick! Something about this man's chick was murdered by some punks but the murder was pinned on him, so he goes to this voodoo guy to help him get revenge. Pretty cool birthing/monster thing for the finale. Lotsa blood too. :)
Check out Devil Fetus and The Rape After as well. :) (Its too bad these are not on DVD somewheres. :( ) I got ahold of these on VHS.

I had the Hong Kong import on laserdisc. I'm a huge Shaw Brothers fan and remember enjoying this film. It is now available on region 1 DVD.

Depending on what I get for Xmas (meaning giftcards or cash), I think I'll pick this up as a blind buy.

I have it on VCR (boot). Amazingly typicalyl insane 80's Asian Horror sleazefest.

They REALLY do not make these anymore in HK.

I really enjoyed this one. Bloody, sleazy, with a dollop of Law-and-Order-ness

Wow. That one had a little bit of everything. Some good cat-3 nudity and soft core, some HK crime drama, a little bit of martial arts, and to comment that the ending was out there is the understatement of the year.

I rented, but I'll be adding it to my collection at some point.

I don't know if anyone here would know, but were the previous versions of this movie in Cantonese? The Image DVD is in Mandarin, which is not the spoken language of Hong Kong.

It probably doesn't matter, as HK movies of this era were shot silent anyway and dubbed later. So you'll never get the lips to match the dialogue. But it was still weird hearing Mandarin.

I used to own the Hong Kong laserdisc of this title which I am fairly sure had a Cantonese track. I was big into Hong Kong films in the late 80's and 90's and always had a preference to Cantonese myself. Mandarin is just more harsh to listen to.

I wonder if it's something more general to the way the Shaw Brothers movies are being released? Corpse Mania and Killer Snakes are also in Mandarin only...

There is a fairly interesting wikipedia article about dialect in Hong Kong Cinema and the Shaw Brothers:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Hong_Kong#Years_of_transformation_.281970s.29

I generally prefer Cantonese tracks too, but maybe Mandarin is more appropriate for the period? That is, maybe the actors at the time were speaking Mandarin during filming, making it easier to synch the (dubbed) audio that way? Maybe more audio elements exist in Mandarin in better shape to use for the DVDs? (just vapidly speculating...)
