One question. Since I already own 4 of the Lone Wolf and Cub films, is it worth getting this cut? I understand it's just a melding of 1 & 2 with some cool music.

Have not seen it myself, but it takes the best and most violent scenes from parts from 1 and 2 splices them together. And I think it adds more blood.

  4. I'ts not worth it. It's an okay watch but the original films in their original form is much more rewarding...especially the storyline.

I love Shogun Assassin and I've seen bits & pieces of the Lone Wolf films. I think it's worth it to check out but I don't know if you'll enjoy it any more.

id say that if this is 14.99 or less, then itll be worth it if you have the other lone wolf movies.

SHOGUN ASSASSIN is a entity in itself, with a pulse pounding disco score, the kid narrating the film, non stop violence, it is technically it's own film, and is one of Quentin's fav.

Ya, Shogun Assassin is a cool flick in and of itself. They didn't "add" any extra gore though, just took the bloodiest bits of the first two flms and meshed em to make one story etc... :)

Kage No Gundan is also coming from Ronin Entertainment. They are a new label formed by the BCI guys. With a name like that they have to have more Japanese titles up their sleeve. They are also releasing the original Ultraman. I don't care for Ultraman, but Shadow Warriors is really exciting. I hope it's subbed and not dubbed. Don't know if it ever was, but you never know.

As for Animegio, those titles are fairly exciting. The Trail Of Blood film has Bunta Sugawara, always a plus. I think that art film is an odd choice though. Their first and their last in my opinion. Never even heard of it and won't be getting it.

My biggest gripe is their restoration. Their video restoration is fairly good, although their black levels could be pumped up. I guess most Japanese films are that way. The black bars on my TV are a deeper black.

Their audio restoration is pretty much non-existent. I didn't really notice until Zato meets the One Armed...DVD. If you have the volume up even at a decent level, their is major distortion. Demon Spies sounds like an old record, with a lot of distortion throughout. Red Lion is a little better, although it has some problems in the beginning. Samurai Banners is good, but because they just ported the Japanese release. Shadow Hunters sounds pretty terrible and I have yet to see the sequel. I hope they work more on these issues or can just port the Japanese releases.

On another board, a guy that works there posts and had said before that Sleepy Eyes of Death wasn't available for license as Daei/Kadokawa didn't want to license with Blu-Ray/HD so close. They feared low sales. Now, he is saying that he thinks someone else licensed them already. I hope so.

As I recall, either SHOGUN ASSASSIN or its' co feature ,LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH has a female villians voice being dubbed by comic/actress Sandra Bernhardt.

Awesome news. All of these titles sound great. I'm glad I can ditch my crappy bootleg of Shogun Assassin.

    Question...

I remembered this is coming out and saw it advertised at work for a 7/11/06 release date. Now, my question is... I own this version...

Is it going to REALLY be worth my time/money to upgrade? I know it says it's "remastered," which might be cool... But the running time seems identical, according to Amazon.

Any comparisons or reviews would be greatly appreciated.

Animego are doing a thing that if you send them your bootleg copy, they give you Shogun Assassin for 10 or 15 bucks.

I also think it is worth it to have Shogun if you already have the Lone Wolf series. It simply meshed parts one and two and adds a Tangerine Dream style synth score and a voice over for the Cub. It is a great intro to the series if you want to get someone into it.

Thanks for the reminder this was coming out, I ordered it from DDD.

FWIW, they have it for under $15, so if Animego is giving you it for 15 with sending in your boot, it's not worth the trouble.

DDD is selling this for $14, I can get it for probably $11-$13 at work with my discount. So, I agree, not worth the effort, but I'll look into it.
