OK, this may be the most ignorant post not started by Ronnie21, but has this always been a horror channel? I even had to wonder if it was a new channel on my Uverse, as I figured with the movies they're showing I'd be watching it non-stop. Just yesterday afternoon I flipped to it and they were showing Ti West's The Roost (admittedly not his best film, but still good to see it on a pay channel), with the original versions of Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre coming on later. Tonight it's Eraserhead and Ed Wood. I know there's been discussions about Monsters HD, and Chiller, but it seems like this is a pretty good horror channel lately...

When I got cable back in 2002, I got a Showtime package for free for 6 mos. Back then it showed scifi, horror, anime and soft porn. I think it morphed since then but it was the best channel in my package.

Well, I may have jumped the gun on this. I looked ahead on the schedule, and they're showing Twilight: Breaking Wind.

Still, I was pretty impressed to have the original Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre without even having to pull out a DVD. I'm lazy that way. They also showed High Tension, but it was the dubbed version. Later this month they'll be showing The Brood and Scanners back to back.

They've been a genre network as long as I can remember, but they mostly play a lot of modern direct-to-video stuff. This is pretty much their genre line-up.

If you're looking for recommendations from the modern stuff (aside from the obvious ones like High Tension), I thought The New Daughter was terrific, especially for a modern PG-13 genre film. Excision is also great, and I thought The Depraved was quite strong if you don't mind the occasional torture-flick (it's actually very similar to Stag Night, another film on their line-up).

I also thought Tamara and Beneath The Darkness were fun little teen horror flicks, but Beneath The Darkness got scathing reviews from just about everywhere, so I'm probably alone on that one. I thought it was harmless fun, even picked up the blu-ray.

Also, The Abandoned, in case you've missed that one. But that's fairly well known.

Also, I haven't watched it on Showtime, but supposedly Silent Night Deadly Night is the R-rated theatrical cut used for the Fangoria theatrical release last year. So PQ might be an improvement over the Anchor Bay blu-ray, even though it's edited.

Thanks for this thread Paff. I wasn't even aware of The Roost until now. I have my DVR scheduled to record it the next time it's on.

Bumping this thread, because last night I came home to find them showing Zombie. Yes, Lucio Fulci on a pay-network.

Yup. They also play House On Sorority Row and God Told Me To a lot.

I have a new one set to record tomorrow night called The Terror Of Hallow's Eve.

My provider is axing this channel next week.

Or is it being axed by Showtime altogether? Anyone know?

I hope not! As far as I know, I've still got it here. I watched part of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark on it the other night.

Oh wow, so I just checked the guide on my cable. Starting Wednesday at 6AM, Showtime Beyond says "SHO x BET Programming".

Checking the schedule on Showtime's website and Googling, it looks like they're turning it into a new Showtime network for black programming. Sucks that Showtime Beyond is the one they chose to give the axe (c'mon, take any of the other Showtime networks instead!), but such is the way of the world I guess.

Oh man that's disappointing. They've been showing some good stuff lately. Maybe they'll keep the Beyond offerings for their On Demand and streaming
