So I picked up some Tartan Asia Extreme discs on sale for $8.88 apiece during Wal-Mart's Halloween promotion. Now, I'm not a huge fan of Asian horror, but I can appreciate it. I think (of the ones I've seen so far) they present far better ideas than they end up executing them.

But, for $8.88 apiece, I figured some of them sounded interesting and not much like repeats of Ringu and Ju-On. The four I picked up were...

    The Heirloom
    Cello
    The Booth
    Pray

I've not sat down to watch them yet, but I was curious about hearing some opinions from some of the board members here. Have any of the Asian horror fans here watched these yet? If so, what were your thoughts?

Pray was pretty lame, but The Booth is really good, pretty different and quite effective. Definitely worth $9.

The Heirloom - A very, very, very good looking horror movie, although the story didn't really amount to much. Still, the visuals were enough to make it enjoyable for me.

Cello - A very well-acted horror movie, although the story didn't really amount to much. The actors made it worth watching though.

The Booth - A short but effective little movie that I enjoyed a lot.

Pray- My condolences on spending money on this stinker.

    Sort of like Koma then?

I've really been wanting to check out Cello. Sounds like it might be right up my alley.

i bought all these titles and WISH i payed only $8.88 for them!

Cello was the best of the 4 titles IMO. all in all these are not the best of the Tartan AE titles, but for that price i would have grabbed them too (if i didnt already have them)

there are some much better titles in the series including
    oldboy
    lady vengeance
    shutter
    natural city
    the victim
    cinderella
    ab-normal beauty

...so keep your eyes open for them

Old Boy is flat out crazy ass movie but I am glad I do-not own it, while it was a great experience to see and know how you can beat this shit out of people if you're really that pissed-off. lol

I still want to see shutter.

Shutter I liked a lot more the second time (although I liked The Victim, also from Tartan, a bit more in terms of Thai horror).

Oldboy is a classic, and I'm very glad I do own it. I've watched it several times.
