    anchor bay boxset
This summer anchor bay are putting out special editions of tenebre and phenomena - which explains why blue underground hasn't cranked them out over the last year like the rest of the argento catalog. Also, these two titles are in a box set that also includes do you like hitchcock?, the card player and trauma.

Hm - does that mean remastered, or what? I actually haven't grabbed Do You Like Hitchcock, yet - but the other titles hold little to no interest to me.

I'll cross my fingers that Tenebrae will finally get the attentionit deserves....

  3. Oh this is great news. I've always wanted to see Tenebre, and I haven't picked up any of the others yet.

Awesome news! I have been holding out picking up Tenebre and Phenomena as these special editions were announced years ago it seems. I need the other 3 movies as well, so its a win win really. Even though I haven't heard too good things about the other 3, I would still buy them for completest sake anyways.

Sounds good, as long as they're new transfers. I'd bargain they are with AB, and I'm almost glad that Blue Underground didn't get them...and just port the old disc contents.

I'm crossing my fingers for a Blu-ray release soon. I'm going to have to hold off till then.

I hear you there. It's very difficult to justify buying DVDs anymore, especially if these are just repackaged old transfers.

Tenebre and Phenomena in high def... What a prospect.:)

The problem I see with that though, is that both films were among the first Anchor Bay released to DVD only to have MAJOR quality issues. And now they're going to be among the first titles to be released to blu-ray, a format also known for quality issues? Maybe it's just me but I don't think it bodes well.

Please God don´t let them release these movies with non-progressive display. ;)
I still remember transfer shocks from AB´s The Card Player and Trauma and I pray now :(

If the DVDs have the audio commentaries from the previous releases, doesn't that kind of point to them being same cuts?

If these are the extended/uncut versions, I should they would be mentioning it somewhere.

Yeah these don't really interest me much at this point. It's sounding like they're the same cuts as before. So unless I find them for really cheap I'll be holding out for blu-ray releases.

You mean those weren't good cuts previously? Much better than "Creepers" and "Unsane" weren't they???? What happened?

Not always. There have been times when an audio commentary from a standard cut is pasted onto an extended cut. There will just be silence during those scenes. For an example, check out Maniac. The original commentary was on a version without the "date" scene, so that particular scene has no commentary.

That Tenebre cover is just horrendous. And why not use the way more beautiful Phenomena cover that they already used?!

Jeez - both covers SUCK. That's the basic Theatrical art for both.... only the backgrounds have been whited out.... why? And then stick a big "Anchor Bay Collection" banner over the top - how pretty. :(

I don't have good feelings about this at all. You know what - since they're SD releases I feel quite confident saying that I won't be getting these. Blu-Ray maybe, but why bother with SD's that are abasically the same as what i have (lost hope that there's anything new here).

The only one I own is Tenebre and that's in the two pack with Deep Red. I might spring for this down the line.
